Hi.
I'm hoping for some advice in controlling dandruff. For the past few weeks my scalp has been so itchy and I have tons of white flakes. The scalp is also characaterised by white patches that are reddened. Most of this is along my parting down the center and across the hairline.
Currently my hair is just about shoulder-length, and I've been growing for 20-21 months.
I've never really had a problem with dandruff at all, and it's really threatening to destroy my hair. I'm constantly rubbing, itching and scratching. I cannot wear black as it looks like my hair is snowing!
I've been using Head & Shoulders smooth and silky, but it is drying out my usually fairly greasy locks. I normally use Aveda Shampure and have done for many months and since switching my hair has become terrible. It doens't seem to be making the dandruff any better after 2 weeks. Should I continue or is there an alternative?
Thanks for reading and thanks for your help. The board has truly helped me during my growing phase.
You need to wash the scalp only. Then as you rinse, the soap that slides down the hair shaft will be enough to clean the rest of your hair, NEVER shampoo ALL of your hair: wash the scalp then rinse.
If you have tons of flakes you may have to use a dandruff shampoo. Just make sure you condition your hair after shampooing.
Some times as you get older, the dandruff just goes away by itself.
