Quick question, i went to safeway and got some olive oil, i was looking for coconut oil but they didnt have any on the shelves. But does olive oil work just as good or would it be damaging for my hair?
Olive oil is...well...it's VERY oily. No, it will not damage your hair because it has been used for thousands of years to moisturize hair.
Use very LITTLE. It's not that easy to get out of your hair compared to other products. One good product is L'Oreal METing Gel. It can be used as a hair dressing and will come out of your hair easily.
Good Luck!
So true! I have found soaking in olive oil does no good for me since any moistening I have done is undone by the multiple washings to get it out and even then sometimes it looks like my hair is not drying but it turns out to have a leftover oil patch. Yuck! It may be different for you of course, trying once won't hurt.
Another thing to consider, some people have found olive oil has some acidity that leaves hair crunchy over time, the opposite of what the oil was to achieve. Coconut just works better for me. I'd suggest trying a few kinds of oils to see what works best for you, Last Sunrise. Be sure to check the skin care aisle for hair oils. There are things sold for hands that are great for hair like cocoa butter in a stick form, jojoba oil as a bottled liquid, almond oil another bottled liquid, and coconut oil as a white solid. Look for 100% forms, not mixed with many other ingredients that are fine for skin but might gum up your hair.

Thank you very much guys, i tried it though i think i put more than i should have, but it still worked great my hair felt noticably softer than before, ill keep on looking for some coconut oil, again thanks alot =D
I normally use olive oil as a once a month "leave it on for a few hours" intense treatment. I only wash once afterward, and just tie my hair back until the next washing.
After reading about the dryness issue after using it for a length of time, this may be contributing to my dry ends (along with my dying, of course). Perhaps it's time for me to try something different...
