Hey guys Im already on day 2 of no showering and Im leaving for the outer banks in north carolina. Im thinking of going 7 more days with just no showering or combing, and see what happens. Im also not gonna shave haha
Is this gonna be bad for my hair..especially because it will be in the salt water a lot while surfing
lol, 10 days with out showering?
Are you doing some crazy hair experiment or you're just lazy?
You're gonna reek like toxic poison, hehehe.
But honestly, that is dirty.
Can't understand what you are trying to proove except that the end result should be considered toxic waste.
Well, Zakk Wylde once went 75 days without showering while on tour, so... er... um... rock on...?
Salt left in your hair sounds abrasive and very drying. You are going to get roughed up hair that feels crispy. If nothing else oil it heavily or slather conditioner on before hitting the salt water.

I can't imagine not showering after all that salt water. Your skin and scalp will get very itchy and if you do a few cycles of salt water + sun-dried hair, your hair will get very brittle. I would at least rinse off in cool water, and consider a sunscreen for your hair (yes they exist).
Cool bro...we went up to Folly beach, sc to surf. I know nc can get some good waves.
Hi Jason Ummagumma,
I envy you, I'd love to be at the North Carolina beach right now. Showers may be scarce if you're surfing in the boonies, and daily salt water DOES cleanse the skin, prevent skin odors etc. But, in order to be gentle to your skin and your hair, why don't you just use a watering can or a plain ol'jug o'water to pour some fresh water over you and your hair? They are available for 50 ¢ or so per gallon in some cheapo stores, and you can refill them in many places (gas stations, back yards etc) for free.
I'd think your hair might get very brittle, and you may have to use quite a lot of detangling lotion in the end (eg conditioner, "anti-frizz serum" etc) to get your hair back in shape. Do you remember the post of a guy who spend a lot of hours undoing his dreadlocks? He was successful in the end, but it was a daunting task.
If conditioners etc are unavailable, you can use skin cream or margarine or any kind of food-type oil, just don't worry about the greasy look. You also may consider getting a lot of mini-braids that can be undone more easily than the natural beachbum-type dreadlocks.
Or is this a contest to show how long your hair can last in the wilderness?
In any case, have a great time, glad you can enjoy the NC coast before the hurricane season arrives.

With yor hair type it will get VERY tricky after 5 days.
Your hair will very likely get tangled with the salt water. . .Most dreadheads look forward to the chance to go to the beach, because the salt water helps the locks tighten up so much! That "Ball" Guy

i heard one that its very bad to acctually wash your hair every day, 2-3 times a week at the most and depending on hair type. condition maybe 4. im experimenting with this now. and its working great acctually. my hair is not as poofy AT ALL. it stays flat(also with help of a benie). mick jaggers wife is known for her beautiful waist-length long hair. her secret?? somtmes shes go A MONTH without any shampooing. its bad for your scalp.
