Ive been growing my hair out for a little over a year now, and have had a few maintenace cuts just to get rid of the split ends. I really love my hair and most people give me wonderful complements. Im going to be starting a job soon as a pharmacy technician at cvs soon, probably with a week or so. My Dad doesn't think i should keep my hair long any more, but i dont care what he thinks especially since he had long hair at my age. What can i do to make my hair look more professional. I currently cant pull all of it back into a ponytail its in that akward stage right now but its getting close. My hair is actually longer than it appears since its pretty thick and grows in waves. Ill probably being able to pull the fronts almost all the way back with a few months. Do you think it matters if my hair is neatly combed and im working at the pharmacy. I would like to keep my hair, but obviously my career is more important.
Mine's at that length now (but it's taken me like 15 months to get there, bah!) and I had a job as a salesman at a fitness store for pretty much as long as I've been growing my hair. I never got any comments from customers and even older people who would typically see it as unclean or whatever never had any problems. I'd say that as long as you don't work with food, nobody will have any problems with it.
Actually, I can't recall seeing any pharmacist wear a hairnet. In a ponytail long hair isn't going to escape into the products but a short hair can drop at any time and is less likely to be spotted. Makes me think the long hair is beneficial, Adam.

This reminds me. I remebered fairly recently when I needed to go by the pharmacist to get a prescription filled. The pharmacist behind the counter had a ponytail down to just above his waist!
I hate jobs careers that try to control how you look. It would be nice to see this kind of discrimination gone. Just keep growing and try to keep it neat until you can pony tail it.
thanks everyone ill just go with my intentions and keep trying to be myself. I think it will be a lot easier to manage the long hair this summer since ill be working in an air conditioned building instead of out in the sun.
Oh its a longhaired board you should continue to grow it long to make yourself look professional gel it back should do the trick take care & happy Growing but please let us know what you decide to do

Keep it growing.
1. Do not second guess your employer. Perhaps you got the jb bvecause there were 7 qualified applicants and the boss thught yur dramatic hair lent the right image for the shop.
2.
If your employer challenges you, then ask her in what way did yout hair didqualify you, for you have even as a child alwayds wanted to work for this corporation, it yet is even more importaant that you have the freedom to be yourself, which is also a long hair man, known statistically to be creative and innovative.
Oberve carefully. be friendly. be cooperative, but do not given in contrary to fact or principle.
