Today, my father told me, to give up this "long hair sh*t" he informed me, that me and him both apparently do not have the right hair texture for our hair to be grown long, which really makes me angry? I mean could this be true? or could it just be ignorance on his part? after all, he may have never given his hair a chance to get out of the awkward stage, but who knows, I would really like to know if there is any truth behind this.
Certainly there such a thing as wrong texture for certain looks such as trying to coax limp fine hair into an afro but there is no such thing as wrong texture for long hair. Each kind will have different needs but they are surmountable. Perhaps your father is not explaining his actual concerns and reason for refusal, Logan.

I totally agree with Elizabeth. Just grow it out, and see what you think. If you like it, keep it. If you don't, do something else with it. It's your hair, for Pete's sake!

Could it be that your father is sort of jealous? It's amazing what people will say to someone who is doing something they never got to do, either through difficult circumstances or because they never had the guts.
In any case, the only way to find out is to try it. Give it time. Then you'll know.

keep in mind that all hair has goes through the awkward stage. as you get through that stage your hair will probably require different needs for each part depending on the look you want to achieve. check out this site:

If I can grow my uber-tight curls long, I'm sure you can too. :P
My parents loudly insist to this day that my type of hair can't grow long and that it's just a messy afro, even with my bangs hanging down to my nose when unstretched. It's a mix of ignorance and dislike for the hair. Dislike often manifests as ignorance, and they feign one for the other until the two become so entangled and blurred together that they can't remember what's the truth.
In short, keep growing. :P Stop straightening your hair, as that'll only confirm your dad's suspicion that your hair can't grow long. Besides that, the damage to your hair will make it look frizzy and dry, which is really bad for thick hair, which I'm assuming you have. Seriously, stop straightening it. You keep doing it, and it's not gonna help you in the long run, or perhaps even in the short. I'm sure my hair is curlier than yours, but even if it isn't, you're still very likely to have hair that can hang down past your shoulders with 2 years of growth or more. It just takes a truckload of time, dude. My dad grew out his hair for like 2 months in college and since his hair only went up, he convinced himself that our hairtype could never grow downwards. Scientific man that he is, I find this a major error on his part. Your dad's probably just the same. Just convince him that time's the key.
that reminds me, do you still pat down your hair in the morning? lol i think i know how to avoid that since i was doing that until recently
lol, well not like before when I had 2 devil horns sticking up from my head each morning. (Seriously, lol.) Now I actually puff out of hair a bit, because instead of going up, my hair goes down when I sleep and gets too flat on my head sometimes.
ok hehe well if you sleep with a doo rag or a bandana wrapped around your head you wont have to pat as much...you might have to comb your hair a bit when you take it off but other than that it'll stay down. this might help you more since you can already tie back your hair
i started doing this earlier this week. hehe no more troll doll hair for me :p (my sister said i looked like a troll one morning lol) my hair looks shiny and it stays down with more ease
Hi Logan,
that's a pretty uncool thing for a father to say. I want to pay due respect to him as a fellow human being, but that would include telling him that this is not the way to talk to his son. You have a right to be treated with more understanding. He's probably just envious because he didn't have the stamina to keep his hair growing. Why is he so uptight, or what is he scared about?
Just stick to your guns, and ignore these comments, or tell him to stop that kind of talk if the situation is right.
You need to do with your hair whatever makes you feel good in the long run. Of course, your hair WILL look good once it has a certain length.
Happy growth,
Hans-Uwe
