So I finally got hired. Im home from college for summer and winter breaks and ive had a horrendous string of jobs. My new job isnt fun but the managers are great. I'm working at NOCO, and the assistant manager is a longhair himself. SO I'm pretty excited that when I come back home from winter break, and especially next summer when my hair is really putting on some long looking length, it wont be a problem.
Anyways. Now that I'm getting checks, I can get a new guitar. I am deciding between an:
Epiphone Les Paul Standard- http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Standard-Electric-Guitar?sku=518341&c_tid=topseller
Epiphone Explorer-

Jackson WRXT X Warrior-

These are my three top choices as of right now. I have heard that the Epiphone Les Paul is the best guality guitar under $500, from multiple sources. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on the three models I have linked?
Any input will be appreciated.

Hey Rome,
Great to hear about the new job, congrats.
As for guitars, i have an Epiphone Les Paul. I have the black version with the 'gold' hardware and pickups. It is a very good guitar and has a very thick, full sound to it. Sustain for days.
It doesn't have the tonal variety of a Fender Stratocaster but it's dual humbucker pickups really beef up those fat riffs!
I am actually thinking of getting an Ibanez RG oneday. Those guitars are "The 80s Metal". The look, the sound, the wizard neck, it is just a great guitar that bleeds to be shredded on and thrashed with classic heavy riffage of Iommi and other greats. I can get an RG here for about $1000(AUS). That includes a Wizard II neck, Dimarzios, and a floyd rose locking tremolo system. Rock on!
Bought an RG few years back - its such a beautiful guitar to play. If I had enough cash tho, I'd love to own a Les Paul and a Strat too! Ah well, dream on!
The strat is the a jack of all trades guitar you can play every style with it, its not to heavy and very easy to play, the les paul is extreamly heavy, kind of restrictive to play (the epiphone is better then the gibson), excellent for rock styles but most importantly it is the coolest looking guitar ever made. I would get the les paul but if your mainly playing at home the strat is probably better.
got a jackson warrior wrxt with floyd rose , duncan designed and lockets, i have it since march 2005 so its been a year and some months, im still loving it for the price i paid it...
I am a guitar reviwer for various magazines. If you could tell me what you'd like to play, the tone or sound you are looking for and the cash you have I'd be glad to help. Feel free to write here or e-mail me. I have a passion for guitars and matching instruments with people. I own 45 guitars at present. Also let's talk amps as well. Best of luck and I hope I can be of help...Eat A Peach For Peace....RedTail Wolf
One important thing to consider is the scale length difference of these guitars. A Jackson Warrior has a 25 1/2 inch scale length and a Les Paul has a 24 3/4 inch scale length. I don't know what an Explorer has, but I think that's 24 3/4 too.
It doesn't sound like much difference, but you can really tell if you are used to one or the other. I can't cope with a 24 3/4 inch neck, personally. It's too tight when I play up high. You need to go to the guitar store and try these out; see which one feels right.
Just something to bear in mind.
FYI: I just picked up a Fender Strat Deluxe with a full floating Floyd Rose, large radius neck, and larger head stock in almost new condition for US$200 on EBAY. Also got a 65W amp for $125; was 3 months old. A new Les Paul recently sold (with hard case and stand) for just over $325. Might be worth your while checking EBAY.
Go with the Jackson. Epiphone is just a copy of a Gibson, and granted a Gibson is a good guitar, but they are horribly over priced. The Jackson will be a better guitar.
