One thing I am confused by this board is that so many people dislike how their hair looks when it is getting long, but not long enough for a ponytail. I think that it is a really cool style, and I see lots of people with that length of hair. Many people purposely cut their hair so it will stay in what is termed here as the "awkward stage."
However, I can understand why men are worried about it in a professional setting, where neat hair is required.
I feel that people should enjoy their hair at every stage on the road to long hair. I certainly have.
ps. right now im wearing my hair in two braids willie nelson style. That has been one of my biggest dreams since starting my long hair quest. Today is the first day ive been able to do it (3 years and 2 months later, ha)!
Hi Timo,
it's great that you can do braids - will you post a picture of it? Brazjol has done it, and it looked awesome - I know, it'll look phantastic on you, too!
You're right of course in that the "awkward stage" looks cool on many people, and no mistake about it, it looks tons better than the regular "Joe Doe" short hair stlye (apologies to all long-hairs called "Joe" or "Doe").
Best wishes,
Hans-Uwe
Thanks,
I dont have a camera, but im going to try to get a picture of it sometime soon. I will post it then.
THanks,
TIMO
In many ways I agree totally with you, as i think medium-length hair (AKA "awkward stage") looks totally cool on most people, --- or at least,
*many* people. I was just recently visiting Scotland, and was surprised at how many guys of all ages, --- but especially young guys --- had their hair at that length, blowing all over the place in the windy streets of Edinburgh... was very reassuring, and looked cool as hell!
My take on using the term "awkward stage" is that this is when most guys get tempted to cut it back to short. Until they can tie it all back into a tail, the hair just seems "out-of-control", --- a quality that many human beings seem to have issues with, since deep down, so many of us tend to be "control freaks" (lol!)!! Also, for anybody working in an office setting that's more on the conservative side, once hair can be tied back, long hair can *almost* look short at first glance (from the front, at least); but before tail-length, it's just... plain... ummmm... AWKWARD!!!

For me the awkward stage is defined as anything shorter than ponytail length (where I am, see my 1 year post pic below). Its awkward cause you simply cannot control it, if you can tie a tail, than if you go out in the wind or something and its blowing all in your face well it seems at least you have the option to do something about it. So its awkward physically. I also think its awkward looking cause people dont quite know what to make of it. Especially if your hair is different lengths in the front than the back. Its not obvious that you are a total longhair and youre not normal looking (for hair anyway). I dont mind my hair now cause I know where I want it to be but I certainly wouldn't want it to stay this way forever :)
But I agree some people look quite cool with longish hair, maybe if its trimmed or looks like something more than an unfinished project :)
Yeah, true, medium length hair can be physically awkward.
Similar to you, part of my enjoying my hair during "awkward length" was because I knew I was getting closer to long hair.
Anyways, I guess everybody has different opinions on what hairstyles are cool, otherwise we wouldnt have this board.
