Hi, im 16 years old and my hair is at about the bottom of my ears all around, it is thick and i think its starting to look like crap. It gets all weird and starts going in odd directions. My stylist told me to use a round brush to curl it under. I cant get it to work though. From what I understand an undercut would solve most of the problems, Is this true, Would it make it lay down flat and be straight? If so how far would it need to be cut under, shaved to the scalp or a few inches off.
If you cannot get the round brush to work for you, return to your stylist and request some explicit hands-on training. Let him/her demonstrate and then give you the opportunity to duplicate the action right then and there. Make sure that any difficulty you are experiencing is corrected to YOUR satisfaction before you leave. (As a men's stylist myself, I can say that if your stylist balks at providing such a service--preferably free--you are going to a stylist who does not deserve you as a client). I recommend this action first because, once you have undercut, you cannot undo it if you suddenly have second thoughts. While undercutting does do away with some problem hair, it also will eliminate some of your hair's fullness as well as present a different set of problems in the form of maintenance, and the repeating (at any and every future time the undercut hair reaches its present length) of the stage at which you are now--and which, if you do not undercut at all, should prove to be just a phase through which you can pass once and for all.
