I was wondering if it was ok to cut your sideburns not your facial hair, but the actual hair sideburns close to your ears? to make it look better because mine curl up and look bad, I have been thinking about cutting them off, but would it look dumb and pro-long the awkward stage or should i just tuff it out? after all there not really needed are they?
A photo might help. Can't you just brush them behind the ears?
Do you mean facial hair sideburns or scalp hair sideburns?
Don;t cut the scalp sidehair.
I know what you mean. There should be no problem in cutting off the hair just on top of your ears. Howver if you go deeper and/or higher you will prolong the awkward stage.
For neatness I cut off that little bit of hair every 6 months or so.
Also not sure which hair you mean - if it's proper sideburns you can trim them with clippers or scissors to stop them going outwards and it will look fine. If it's just the hair that naturally falls in front of your ears then it's more tricky. I had to have the hair at my hairline around the ear shaved for an operation and that bit was such a nuisance growing back that I ended up cutting the other side to match. It's quite a tricky job, but it can be done - go cautiously to avoid an inadvertant mohican, lol! If you do decide to cut these bits I'd suggest sweeping back as much hair from your face into a pony, or clip it back. Start by holding the scissors parallel with your face and cut off the sticky out bits - that might be all you need to do, but if more drastic measures are required use a damp comb to comb these hairs back (making sure only the problem bits are free) and cut across them upwards at a point further back than where your ears join your head - that way when you pat them down to where they belong in front of your ears you won't have a harsh line and you won't cut too short to begin with. You can always trim more if you wish but you can't stick it back on.
Having said all that, after a loooooooong time trimming these bits regularly on myself, all of a sudden I realised I hadn't done it for a while and lo and behold, they had behaved themselves and grown out long enough to go behind the ears if I wanted them to without me even noticing. Now they're as long as the rest of my hair. Hair is just weird!
If you mean shaving the sideburns alongside your ear to the top than I would recommend it - especially if you havea decent tail.
Just take care not to go above the top of the ear.
