Hey,
I have always had thick curly long hair as far as i can remember (I am now 24). It was a bit longer than shoulder length and I would get trims to keep it at that length. I never had any problems with my hair and it was very low maintenance.
Last year while living in hot and humid south east asia i was convinced by my workmates and friends to shave it all off for comfort and to try something new (a decision i regreted every day since). Not that it looked bad, i just missed that free feeling of having long hair, i know you guys can relate ;)
Finally it is starting to grow back. However, I have been encountering problems I have never had before; It gets extremely frizzy and seems to blow out almost into a fro. It is also extremely dry on the back and ends, especially the bottom towards my neck. This is causing lots of problems with knots and tangles.
I have included a picture of my head so that all you long haired experts can best help me out. Hopefully this pic will convey the extent of the problem. This pic is the day after washing. Normally my neck would not be visible. And when wet my hair goes down past my face/shoulders. However, after washing it seems to frizz and curl into an afro ball and doesnt flow long and nicely like usual.
I never had these problems in the past, my hair always flowed down and was never frizzy, i could run my fingers through and there would rarely be nots. THese days it is filled with knots!
This post is getting to long so ill cut it off now. Any advice would be greatly appreciatd. These knots and this dryness are driving me crazy! Hopefully you guys can help me out and ill be able to post an after pic to show the difference!
Cheers.
p.s. this site is great!
my hair is the same way in the back and its starting to get better ever since ive started washing it in cold water and i don't shampoo it every day like i used to because it strips away all the valuable oils in your hair
Hey Naveed,
I only shampoo my hair about once a week. By the 7th day after shampooing it looks nice and shiny and there is no dryness. But by this time i need to shampoo again because of build up in the hair from sports etc.
I will try your suggestion of using cold water. usually i rince my hair warm water.
Cheers
My hair is not curly..but it's straight and very dry...all i do is i stopped shampooing as much i only shampoo twice a month now and it's working really great. Plus...i add tons of conditioner whilei my hair is wet(about 2 times a week)...and the day after showering i put hair oil on my hair. All this seems to work fine until i put that little bit of shampoo on my hair again :(.
So, try what i tried, and get rid of the use of the evil shampoo.

Cheers Oleg, I will try upping the conditioner and adding some oil. and of course, avoiding shampoo!
