I have extremly thick hair, about shoulder length, i was wondering, what are some ways i could get it thinned,i heard of a " razor cut" but i dont know any ideas, any tips or pics to help out. Thank in advance.
A "Razor Cut" is when an entire haircut is done soley with a Razor. No Sissors, but "sometimes" a buzzy used for the neck. It was popular in the 70's-some of the 80's. At that time my hair was never the length it is now..........but it was medium to quite long compared to other guys. I thought it was the best cut of all.......and then it seemed to vanish. For very long hair such as I have now I am afraid that it would not work at all. I would not advise it. But let's see what others have to say.
Thanks, do you have any pics of your hair like this? My hair is sometimes too thick to manage.
I have one from years past, but it would have to be scanned and I don't have a scanner. Bragi has sent in an excellent photo example of about my hair length at the time I was getting razor cuts. For myself, with that amount of hair, the Razor Cut was the BEST cut (and I had plenty of them)that I ever had. There was just something about it that was so perfect.

As Justin said, it's when your hair is cut with a razor instead of scissors.
The razor cut is popular right now again. It is usually done when someone is wanting their hair layered or thinned like you are talking about doing. If you have very straight hair, it will work well for thinning it, as some of the hair being shorter will reduce the volume while the long hairs will keep the length. The thinning is basically the same as layering too.
I work with a lady who actually had this done last week. She has very straight blond hair but lots of it, and keeps it around shoulder length. The stylist she went to used thinning shears instead of the razor, but the same effect was achieved. It looks really nice, it hangs very straight and lays down.
Now, my nephew who has been growing his hair had his thinned/razor cut too. But, he has very curly wavy hair, and this thinning actually reduced the volume, but made the hair curl more, since the shorter hairs don't have the weight to keep them from curling up as much as a longer hair would.
The downside to this is that if you like tying your hair back, there will be lots of hairs not long enough to stay in the hair tie. It will take a while to grow all the layers out if you decide to go with that. If you always wear loose hair, then it really wouldn't be something to worry about then.
The picture of the guy on the right (Hercules) has kind of a layered style as you can see. I don't know if something like that is what you are talking about though.
My mother is a hairdresser. I have seen her in the past with a client who had very thick hair, like you describe.
Often she would take her scissors, open them as wide as possible and quicly slide the exposed blade down locks of hair.
Little fluffy tufts of hair can be seen falling to the ground as she does this
(imagine the process of using a scissors to make ribbons curl).
I doubt it is good for your hair (e.g. split ends), but it always looks pretty good for the client who has very thick hair and they seem happy.
It can also be used as a styling technique though, as when I had short hair years ago, I would also occasionally have this done to my hair. It was a pretty wierd sensation though as it made this squeaking noise.
Just my 2cents (or am I closer to a buck!?)
