Hello Gents,
I post once in awhile. My hair is mid-back lenght and it is on the fine side. It sometimes looks scraggly due to its texture. Any suggestions about something to apply after washing and drying to make it fuller and give it more "body?"
My Thanks,
Joe
Use products labeled for fine hair.
there are a few ways to go about this, some being obviously more healthy and effective than others:
1)cut layers into your hair or crimp it (gives the illusion of more hair, thus more body)
2)wash your hair with soap instead of shampoo. this is what people do when they are preparing to get dreds, although it REALLY drys your hair, so use colored soap.
3)don't use so much conditioner. sometimes going easier on the conditioner when you have already fine, soft hair can help a lot.
4)use gel, mousse, or hair spray to give it a little bit of lift (doesn't work so well on really long hair).
5)don't wash your hair every day, cut it down to every other day or every other other day, just rinse it with water. this also tends to dry out your hair.
6)wash and conditon it, but ONLY condition the ends of your hair.
what i do: i wash my hair every day with cool water and only condition the ends of my hair, since my hair is already so fine and this is the only part that gets dried up. then i drive with my windows down in the car while my hair is damp to let it dry pushed back (gives it more body).
hope this helps a little.
I should have also mentioned to comb or brush it against the grain while it's still damp. If you can do this, then, when it dries, it will be standing up. That can add quite a bit of volume.
Hi Joe
My hair is also on the thin side, but Aussie puts out two products and you might want to experiment to see if this makes a difference. It sure did with myself and this is what I use all the time.
One is the Aussie Shampoo for fine hair. The other is Aussie Aussome Volumn Shampoo. Only Shampoo the top of the head and let the water from the shower wash it downward. After that be sure to use TONS of conditioner on all of the long hair below the scalp and merely a thin coating on the head. Allow to remain for up to 10 minutes and then wash all out to a point, that being making sure that there is some left behind in the hair.
It only took me 3 years to figure this one out. But at least for myself I have finally found what really works best for me. Hope it works with you. Good luck.
