Hey Everyone...
So apparently.. longhaired men comprise approx. 2-5% of the male population.
And the introverted type personalities (INTP) and (INTJ) cover probably 3% of the population maybe slightly more or slightly less.
I just read last night that introverted men may prefer to grow their hair out. This may mean that growing hair is not a matter of personal choice but of personality.
In other words..its psychologically programmed for some of us to grow out our hair. Those two types (INTJ) and (INTP) are also labelled as "Nerds" cause they are so wrapped up in their own minds.
As I am an (INTJ) I feel pressured to conform to social norms moreso than an (INTP). But I feel hardwired to want long hair. That is probably why I struggle with deciding to keep my hair or not.
Anyways..just some insight from your Buddy..
Cheers
Works for me, I was classified as an INTP in one of the tests I took for a class not too long ago.
And wow, does it ever match my personality. The desctiptions match me to a T. This is actually really helpful because it lists the overall traits and I was able to identify a few negative ones which I definitly exhibit.
Hi Buddy,
Very interesting reflection on the possible connections. I have been using the Myers-Briggs for over 20 years as a personal tool. I find it very helpful in making sense of myself and how I interact with others. I tend to agree with your assessment of introversion, hair, and the P or J factor.
One thing I'll toss in, is that working with this approach, the idea is not to lock ourselves into a personality mold, but to see where we currently are and allow that to show us the areas where we are less comfortable. One approach is to "work on" those areas that we are less comfortable with. The other thing is that over time, personality types tend to shift and move. 25 years ago, I was an INFJ with a very strong N and J. Over those 25 years, I have balanced those two out significantly. I still "test" as an N, but only slightly so, and the J can be P some days.
25 years ago, I would have found going against too much social pressure very difficult with external appearances. These days, not so. I would say that much of my journey thus far, looking back over my shoulder has been struggling with how the inside of me was at odds with the external socia pressures. And, over time, I've found more and more strength to be able to choose so that my interior and exterior were more in line.
Sorry to go on so long--but I really like your connections here. They are true for me.
Robert
Thanks for your insights Robert..
I feel encouraged to keep growing
Cheers
Very interesting indeed to read of this.
Thank goodness in my case I have always walked to the beat of my own drum and no outsider, study, analysis etc. alters my opinion. I just do my own thing without research or "wondering" what other people might think.
Interesting choice of words there Justin. Back in 2001/2002 I spent Years 11 and 12 of High School in a brand new school (i.e. so new that when I was in Grade 11, there was no Grade 12!-we were the first graduating class).
Anyway I got through a scholarship that I attained by acing the scholarship test.
That test included an essay at its end. The title?
" 'I march to the beat of my own drum'. Discuss"
2 months after starting at this school I began growing my hair long for the first time.
It's a statement that I definitely agree with :)
Well you could be right Im an INTJ but I think I crossed over a lot into the different personality types, so I dont know if it really works to label types like this.
Interesting. I just took an online test and scored INFJ (with low scores for F and J). I think that is the first time I've received this score. I think I usually am rated INTP.
Very interesting :)
Any links to some online tests for this ?
