This is a Fender American Deluxe Strat body sanded down to the wood. They have VERY thick finish took so much elbow grease and gouged wood to get it like this... Best to use a power sander cause by hand this would have taken forever... I still got the other side to do.... The hard part would be inside the cutaways and edge cause they all have to be done by hand!
Why??
Cause I dont like its origional color or the poly finish... I am going to do a Fender sunburst then finish it in lacquer (probably acrylic cause I dont know where to get nitro) and let it wear naturally like that SRV guitar...
you're aware this will alter the sound of the guitar entirely right?
I doubt it. That was my though initially as well until I looked closely enough (not very close) to tell it is not an acoustic guitar. That's a solid hunk of wood there, unlikely to affect the quality of the sound much. The main function of the body on an electric guitar is to provide a firm mount for the strings, and decoration, of course. Acoustical properties are generated primarily electronically.
Just a guess, but I'd say you've reduced the "Antiques Roadshow" value of your guitar to less than a tenth of what it was before you took the paint off.
