Hello to all you terrific longhaired men, aspiring longhairs, and the kind men and women who appreciate and encourage them!
I've been a fan of this great message board for years, and I'm finally writing my first post. I was hesitant because I am a woman, but after reading the FAQ and meeting a couple of fine individuals who regularly post here, I learned, as long as I stay on the topic of male long hair, that all should be cool. Well, that should not be difficult at all! I've appreciated men with long hair since I was a child, and I've grown my own long hair--I decided I didn't like getting my hair cut, so I didn't. . .for over 11 years. I consider myself a "born longhair," and I've advised and encouraged numerous male friends and family members interested in growing long hair. To me, longhaired men deserve respect and admiration due to the strength and patience required to grow their long glorious manes. Longhaired men have dealt with everything from social pressures, to managing that strand of hair that continually falls in the face, slides over the shoulder, gets tangled between the toes, etc.
I am pleased to report that I have noticed many more men with long hair lately. While recently attending my niece's high school graduation, I was stunned to observe that approximately half (maybe more) of the men in the graduating class have what society would consider long hair (at least as long as the "awkward stage").
Another fun thing to report is that one of my friends has a husband who works in a very conservative setting and is enjoying countering his co-workers taunts. For example, when an email went out dictating no hair below the collar for men, he responded, "Well, I'll just be wearing Henley shirts from now on. In a few years, you'll all have the pleasure of seeing me work in swim trunks." Then when the boss said, "Hey, your co-worker is going for a haircut. Perhaps you'd like to join him," my friend's husband said, "I'm busy working, but thanks for saying you like my hair so much that you want me to serve as a model for his."
I'm attempting to attach a picture to this email, but in case it doesn't work, let me say that my own hair is currently to the middle of my back, light golden blonde (through the enlightening magic of chemistry), and growing. I may grow it to my waist if I can keep the color intact.
Well, I look forward to interacting and sharing news and tips with the great folks here.
Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow,
peace and happiness,
Rainbow
Hi Rainbow,
Thanks for such a supportive post. We, as longhaired men, truly appreciate a post such as yours. There is so much negativity out there so a positive post like this is great especially from the female perspective.
Jason
I have to say this a really delightful message, it radiates warmth and kindness... Thanks!
welcome! and thanks for such a positive and encouraging post!!
Aloha! Welcome, ye of wonderful words. :)
As others have said, it's delightful to see such a positive post in this age of myopic image persecution and social segregation. And from a woman...that just makes the post all the lovelier, because a lot of guys here, including me, sometimes feel discouraged by the lukewarm or downright negative reactions they receive from girls. So for you to openly support us, it's very good for the self-esteem, indeed. :)
I think a lot of people will appreciate this post, even if it's not the first of its kind. Like your hair dye, there's a kind of magic to it, and from your name, we're reminded not just of warmth and kindess after the storm, but that there's always a pot of gold to look forward to if we strive hard enough.
Enjoy your stay!
LOL, I like that response ^_^
Hey man, what's up!? Nice hair bro. Long haired people rule! lol
Welcome aboard.
Several years ago, I was asked to help train a group of new-hires. When I entered the training room, one guy became visibly depressed as he sunk into his chair. I asked him if he was ok, to which he replied, "I had hair nearly as long as your's up until last week." "What happened?" I inquired further, and he said, "I cut it at the advise of my family because they didn't think your company hired men with long hair."
I expressed my empathy, assured him the company has a very liberal dress code, and told him he's more than welcome to grow his hair back. It had grown back down to his shoulders - from a crew cut - by the time he left the company.
Thank you Rainbow -- very much. Positive comments from tha ladies sometimes seem few and far between, and really do encourage the hearts of us longhairs.
It's great to hear your input, Rainbow! Thanks :)
Hello, welcome and thanks for the kind post (nuttidave, wannabe longhair).
My exhuberant thanks for your kind welcoming remarks!
I'm saddened to hear that your long hair is not more appreciated by those of the female gender. Rest assured that while it is true that not all women adore long hair on men, those that do, really do. Of course, I know you grow your hair for you, not for the sake of another. And really, whether we're talking about family, friends, or partners, it feels really great to have your gifts appreciated, whatever they are: intelligence, musical talent, long hair, or that amazing impression you can do of Kermit the Frog.
Thanks again for the happy words. Smile and hold your head high! (It makes your hair appear longer). :)
peace and happiness,
Rainbow
Not only can I picture you saying this but I hear your cheerful voice as well. Can you free yourself up for a visit to San Francisco somewhen? I can always benefit from your wisdom regarding a favorite long haired guy.
As you have already seen from the replies, the guys here are a dear lot and will benefit from the admiration, knowledge you can provide. They even let me play here even though my interest in long hair probably ranks below my joy at a Jim Henson Kermit impression.
Tickled to see you here,
Elizabeth
Happy and honored to have you hear, Rainbow. And I hope you'll post a picture of the back of your hair some day. Here's one of mine about a half year ago, I think (it's longer how):
I had to reread Rainbow's message to see if she had mentioned it and found a sly reference that "I decided I didn't like getting my hair cut, so I didn't. . .for over 11 years." I have a feeling we will get to see Rainbow's hair at her current length sometime but maybe also a peek at what eleven years can grow, just as a credential to speak to the experience she brings here of course. ;-)
Beautiful color and waves in your own hair, Pat!
Elizabeth
I meant to say in my previous message:
"Happy and honored to have you here, Rainbow. And I hope you'll post a picture of the back of your hair some day. Here's one of mine about a half year ago, I think (it's longer now)."
Must have been still upset that my main work computer died.
And thanks for the complement, Elizabeth!
Hello and welcome!
Thanks for your support and input.
