For those of you who don't know, I've been taking private instruction in Classical guitar for close to three years now.
My first official piece of repertoire, Romance, was at one point proving such a challenge to learn that I began wondering whether my teacher felt like I was wasting his time because it seemed as though I was taking forever to learn it.
Well, my committment to practice and determination to learn guitar as paid off more than I thought. My teacher has opened his own store. Unfortunately, he had to drop most of his students because he no longer has time to teach them. He chose to keep me and one other student on his roster. We had our first lesson in his shop tonight, and man was it fun!
There are a few basic pieces from Christopher Parkening's book he's had me learning in an effort to work on adding musicality to my playing. I showed him what I've been trying to do with crescendos and chord progressions. He noticed I have a tendency to increase my tempo and fumble a lot as I get louder. He wants me to work on maintaining a consistent tempo and improving my left/right hand coordination on crescendos.
Matthew Hutchinson - A New Voice in Classical Guitargreat to see another guitar player......theres nothing more pleaseing for me than seeing myselfprogress. for example getting a piece nailed that was so difficult at the start
goodluck with your playing!!!
I couldn't agree more.
Thank you.
Matthew, that's really great news. Congratulations on sticking with it, and truly learning to make music -- as a musician, I know that it's a process that never ends. Also, thanks for posting the link to your web site -- I'm listening to your playing right now (one of the Spanish Caprichos), and it's most pleasant. I'm a cellist, and I have to say that guitar is one of those instruments that I've never really learned to play well, so I greatly admire those who can make music on it.
Good luck with your future musical studies, and keep up the great work.
Thank you. It wasn't as polished as I would've liked it to have been, but after spending close to an hour trying to record a flawless performance, what I wound up posting was as good as I decided I was going to get with my mounting frustration.
hehehe
Thank you. I plan to.
The Mazurka is just delightful...and "Duet Eight" is haunting.
Oh!! The Talents we Longhairs have !!
Thanks for Sharing......
