After about 6 months growing it seems my hair is getting close to the Tom Cruise look in The Last Samurai :D
Do pony tails do any damage to the hair, or does it do some good ??
What is the best way to tie a pony tail ??
Do you tie high up the back of the head or low down ??
What is the best "device" to use - rubber bands, womens hair ties, hair clips ??
Any advice appreciated !! :)
If that's the length you have it may not be long enough for a ponytail just yet, but the only way to know is to try it. The big question is how much of your hair will reach to the point where the tie is going to go, and still have enough left over to stay in the tie.
I've never seen where a tail will help or hurt your hair, it just gets it back out of the way.
What works for me is to loop the tie over my thumb and index finger, then use those two fingers to grab the hair at the point I want to tie. Using the other hand I pull the tie around the gathered hair, then twist the band and pull it back around the gathered hair. With most bands I have to make three-four loops with the tie to get it tight enough to hold well.
For the most part I tie it at the base of the skull, but whatever works for you.
You don't want to use rubber bands, as they can damage your hair. The best I've found are the thin fabric-wrapped elastic bands, preferably without any metal (I'm assuming this is what you're referring to as "women's hair-ties"). There are also the much thicker "scrunchies" many women use. Those are actually less-damaging, but they don't go so well with men's office wear in my opinion, so I go with the thin ones. I've also used dark plastic barrettes/clips for a sort of half-tail, but my hair is too thick to use them for a full pony-tail (I can't get the darn things to close that way)
Hope that helps
