I might be oversensationalizing this, but I am finally able to tie some of my hairback with a rubber-band! Nothing impressive, it's only about an inch (in my 4th month of growing my hair), but nonetheless this is pretty awesome!
I know I would look like a fool walking around daylight like this, but I heard in the past tying your hairback helps grow the hair longer, faster. Is this true? If not, I'll forget wearing this at night.
From everything I've heard, and done, you really don't want to use a rubber band on your hair. If you want to start tying it back, purchase a set of bands without rubber and without metal parts. Both can damage your hair. I've found the most trouble with my hair still tends to be around the back where I tie it, and it's mid-back length on me now. Too much tying and it doesn't breathe well.
Rubber will damage your hair. Metal will often get caught and cause further split ends.
This would suggest that leaving it out will be better at encouraging growth than tying it back at this stage.
As nice as it may feel to have a nub in back, it will feel a whole lot better on you in another year or two when you have a long enough ponytail for the wind to cause it to move from one shoulder to the other.
When I first did what you're doing to tie my hair back 11 years ago, it helped me get ready to show that I wanted to have a ponytail. Then, once I was able to actually pull together a small ponytail, I was ready to really start wearing one for the indefinite future. Still do today. And it's a lot longer than a couple of inches. Yours will be, too, if you let it grow and minimize the chemicals and stuff you're tempted to put in it. And, please, no rubber on the hair!!
Be patient, my friend, and you'll enjoy it even more.
Will do. I feel more comfortable without tying my hair back anyhow. I'll just put it on the back-burner until I'm able to pull this off later this year.
