Hi everyone i have been growing for 9 months, and i have dyed it twice, the first time was when it was very short, the 2nd was 2 weeks after and the 3rd was just over a month ago. I curently have brown + blonde streaky hair, but the roots are growing out now, my family thinks i should dy my hair brown again and then re put in streaks, but the blonde really damages hair as it contains bleach. I was thinking if i went to black i could dye it once every 3 month or so, and in between them 3 months i could use things to keep my hair healthy. Or there is the simple soloution and just go back to all brown....what do you think ?
Hi Glen,
why don't you check into some non-permanent dyes, either in your natural color, or a similar color. Among the non-permanent ones, try a "level 1" product where they promise that it only lasts two or three hair washings (it'll last quite a bit longer anyways). "Level 2" (lasting 15-20 hair washings) is practically a permanent product already, especially on bleached strands.
Dyeing is always a huge commitment - you'd need to repeat it regularly, and with the permanent dyes ("level 3"), there is a greater potential for damage. If you really have been dreaming about all-black hair for quite some time already, that would be different, than you'd probably have more of a commitment.
And, you always have the option of ignoring what everybody says and grow it out - that may be the best solution of all.
Hope that helps.

Well, i've just put on a Level 3, permanent dark brown colour, but before that i had Level 2, but the reason i now wanted to have totally Permanent was because the colour faded so fast.
i've even had Permanent Black one time, but that was when i had short hair 2 years ago, but it was way too black, and damaging too.
Somehow my hair feels better now after i trimmed and put on a darker colour, more soft & shiny.
Yeah, man. Go for it if you've wanted black hair for a long time. Just be careful and make sure you know what you're doing with your hair.
You should probably post pictures to see what people think.
It should be fine as long as you don't bleach your hair. Dyeing doesn't do too much damage, but bleaching is very damaging.
In my experience, of 42 yrs, I would NOT recommend dying all black. It is very damaging to your hair and probably not the effect you want anyhow.
First find a proffessional COLORIST.
Second, not all salons have one!If cost is an issue...go to a local Beauty College...I have had saved $1000's of dollors over my lifetime and have been very happy with my results.
Third, my opinion is to do a MINK EFFECT ( natural brown overall and tipped in Black/Brown on 1-3 inches on the ends in a flame style)on your natural color hair and if it does not suit you ,you can just trim it back and still have healthy hair you can try something new with.
