So I am going to my aunt's vacation house this saturday; it has a nice pool. And that's the only reason why we're going, EVERYONE is going to have to swim. And it's cool, I WANT to swim but I am worried about my hair.
My hair is very short right now(still recovering), but I do not want harsh chlorine touching my hair. I feel very strongly about getting a swimming cap, regardless of how my 'tough' cousins will take it. Anything else I should do to prevent any damage to my hair?
1. Swim Cap
2.?
thanks a LOT for any help, guys. I love this board.
It is certainly damaging, but one, two or even five times won't hurt that much. You should be OK with a swim cap. Good luck.
Maan.. Just dive in! It won't do no harm less theres some really strong shiii* in der, ya no wha im sayin.
later foo'.
Don't bother with the swimming cap. Your hair will be fine.
Just get in there - it won't damage your hair, especially as it is short just now anyway. If you're really scared, just rinse it well in clean water afterwards but the biggest problem with swimming is just the same as anything that gets your hair wet - getting it untangled and dried, and this is only something to worry about when your hair is longer.
Ask yourself whether you care more about your hair or having fun.
Just jump in. Really, it's not like you'll be there for 24 hours at a time. Just make sure to rinse it off afterwards and you'll be fine.
Women do all kinds of crap to their hair on a regular basis, yet it looks fine.
Don't worry about your hair. I go swimming in the pool as well as the river all the time. Hell, I am practially living in my swimming trunks and wear them just about everywhere around town during the summer. And all this time, my hair seems to be just fine. In fact, I kinda like how it tends to get a shade or two blonder during the course of the summer (which is no doubt helped by the chlorine from the pool). Now, if the friggan YMCA that I am a member of would get that damn waterpark opened!
Also, here is an interesting tid-bit I found in a book (2201 fascinating facts by David Louis, on page 223) about hair:
Apart from it's vulnerability to fire, human hair is almost impossible to destroy. It decays at such a slow rate that it is practically nondisintegrative. It cannot be destroyed by cold change of climate, water, or other natural forces, and it is resistant to many kinds of acids and corrosive chemicals. This is why it clogs sinks and drainpipes.
Thus, it is very unlikely you are going to wreck your hair by a bit of water and chlorine in the pool. Yes, it may cause it to dry out, but that is what they make conditioners for. I find myself using shampoo quite a bit less during the summer just because of this very reason.
Go for a swim and have fun! Your hair will be fine.
