Okay, here's a question, folks...
I have had my hair long for quite some time now. Awhile ago, I had the back and sides of my head shaved up a bit to ease the sweating problem I have on hot summer days...it has really helped.
My question...does this style (having some of the head shaved, the rest extremely long) have a name? And is there any general feeling on this?
Thanks, folks...
Nicholas
Sounds like a mullet to me, and there doesn't seem to be a general concensus on yay or nay for it. Personally, I don't care for it. But, some folks think it looks great.
Actually, I think Nicholas is referring to an "undercut" which I too feel is a bit weird-looking and would probably never consider for myself. This is distinguished from a mullet by creating a shaved or very short layer at the back and often extending around the sides over which long hair from all other parts of the scalp, including the front and top and upper sides which are typically cut short in a mullet, lies.
Nicholas:
First of all, your message is well written. You sound like a very
mature and intelligent 14 yr old. You are sensitive to the relationships around you and seem to be able to state your own feelings and opinions. You sound like you have what it will take to
have and enjoy your long hair in a short hair world. Most parents and
spouses who complian about the long hair on their boys or men, do so primarily because they are embarassed by your hair. That's their problem not yours. But it does become a problem when it turns nasty
or dirty. Stick to you guns if you like your long hair.It will grow
to where you had it and longer-just takes time, patience and endurance. I have a lot of respect for any young or not so young
man that has decent looking long hair. My hair is only to my shoulders. I make it a point to compliment every guy I see with long hair. My wife doesn't understand this. Once, a young guy just about your age, said to me "I like your hair" . Man that statement blew me
away, because no one had said it before. So now I say it. The
support you get back really feels good. About your own hair, if you want all one length, then make sure that you stay away from the salons for at least 18 months. But take good care of your hair. Good luck.

You should definately grow your hair I started growing mine and like you had lots of hassle about getting it cut. This was at my job and I just ignored the boss expecting to be sacked. As my hair grew and became tidier He stopped telling me to get it cut.My mum still mentions it as does my nan but I just ignore them.It is my life and my hair and you should just let your hair grow out and don't go to a hairdressers for anything not even to "get your ends trimmed" nothing ok and good luck.My hair is half way down my back
nicholas,
yes, your cut is called an "undercut." personally, I LIKE THEM. not the REAL extreme ones, meaning LOTS of hair shaved all around to where you are approaching mohawk status, but as far as neatening things up in the back and on the sides, i think they are great!
