i was going through my old pics and decided to make a small compilation of pics of my progress through the years. hopefully i did the coding right and the pics will show, if not just copy and paste the links into your browser. the pictures show roughly three years of growing whithout trimming in between.
what do you guys/gals think about my hairs rate of growth? is it fast, slow or normal?
some random hair pics.
Hi Daedalus,
Thanks for the picture update and you got great hair growth there and the hair looks in great condition. I would say you have average hair growth there.
You certainly keep it in great condition. I hope you keep it growing as you are a great inspiration with longhair.

Hi
Daedalus_Dev
Welcome to the Hyperboard
Your hair is just Incrediable great Texture & body love how you turn your length into all different styles braids & ponytails would have liked to have seen a front view of your hair just hanging down freely to see the actual length of it maybe next time i suppose !
Thanks for sharing such great Pictures of your hair
Axel
Damn man, after 3 years, that length?! That's incredible. I will be going on four years now, and my hair hasn't even reached my nipples. :( But I've trimmed like 3 inches since I've started from a buzzcut. Seriously though, killer hair!
Very neat hair! Gee... I hope my hair grows to that length!!
--Rick
Man, that is some hair!
...You made lots of progress growing your hair in just the past three years! I'd say you have fast-growing hair.
Good Luck!
I really like that Native American style you had. Did you just use a lot of brown hair ties or some sort of material?
Hi Daedalus_Dev. Whether your hair growth is fast or super fast depends on how tall your are. If you are 5'6" tall and it reaches your waist in 3 years, it would be fast growth. If you are 6'6" tall and it reaches your waist in 3 years, it would be super fast growth. I am getting mixed messages as to how tall you are, or I could give you a better answer. You appear to be as tall as 6'6" in photo 3 but maybe 5'7" in photos 4 and 5. You almost look like 2 different people.
As for how your hair looks, it is simply superb. You mention wanting to trim it. It does not appear to need a trim at all. You have the perfect hair type (1a C iii) to grow to maximum length. Again, you have beautiful hair.
Absalom
Absalom,
I agree (1a C iii) is perfect. Alas, I'm (2a F/M ii). What is your hair type?
Jason

Hi Jason, due to extreme diversity, my hair type is difficult to classify. It is maybe 60% straight, 20% wavy, and 20% curly (open curls). My hair is maybe 60% fine, 20% medium, and 20% coarse. I have a mix of light blond, dark blond, reddish blond, red, auburn, light medium and dark brown, and black. I have NEVER met another person in my entire life that has hair as varied as mine. This is my estimated overall average: (1c-2a F-M ii). My hair type looks very similar to yours.
My hair is far from ideal to grow to extreme length. It is fragile and tangles very easily. I found a loophole around the problem, and this is the way I normally keep my hair, (See photo.) Without this method of binding my hair, I would have been forced to settle for mid back length max.
BTW the third classification on your hair appears to me to be thick. That would be iii.
Absalom
My ponytail circumference was only 2 1/2 inches when I measured it, placing me in the ii category. I may remeasure in a few months when my hair is longer just to make sure I get *all* my hair in the tie for an accurate measurement.
I stand corrected. After viewing your hair brushing video, your hair definitely appears to be of medium density rather than thick. A still photo is hard for me to evaluate. Your hair appears thick in most of the photos. When MOTION is added, evaluation becomes MUCH easier, due to seeing your hair from many angles in a short space of time.
BTW, what is your goal length?
Absalom
40 inches (using LHC's measuring method). This would probably be around belt length.
What exactly are these (1a C iii), (2a F/M ii), (1c-2a F-M ii) classifications? What do they represent and from what are they derived?

Go check this out for an explanation of hair typing. It is called Fia's hair typing system.

Hmmm... I would guess myself to be a (2c F/N i/ii), although reference photos would help. To put it one way, a single strand of my hair is about .002" or .003" - is that "fine" hair?
-m
You appear to have fine hair. You need to measure numerous shed strands to get an average value. 0.002" is very fine, 0.0025" is fine, 0.003" is medium.

From The Long Hair Community (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showpost.php?p=5044&postcount=1)
"FIRST CLASSIFIER - Your curliness (or lack thereof)
The straight ones
1a - stick straight
1b - straight but with a slight body wave, just enough to add some volume, doesn't look wavy
1c - straight with body wave and one or two visible S-waves (e.g. nape of neck or temples)
The wavy ones
2a - loose, stretched out S-waves throughout the hair
2b - shorter, more distinct S-waves (similar to waves from braiding damp hair)
2c - distinct S-waves and the odd spiral curl forming here and there
The curly ones
3a - big, loose spiral curls
3b - bouncy ringlets
3c - tight corkscrews
The really curly ones
4a - tightly coiled S-curls
4b - tightly coiled hair bending in sharp angles (Z-pattern)
SECOND CLASSIFIER - What (most of) your individual strands look like
F - Fine
Thin strands that sometimes are almost translucent when held up to the light. Shed strands can be hard to see even against a contrasting background. Similar to hair found on many people of Scandinavian descent.
You can also try rolling a strand between your thumb and index finger. Fine hair is difficult to feel or it feels like an ultra-fine strand of silk
M - Medium
Strands are neither fine nor coarse. Similar to hair found on many Caucasians.
You can also try rolling a strand between your thumb and index finger. Medium hair feels like a cotton thread. You can feel it, but it isn't stiff or rough. It is neither fine or coarse.
C - Coarse
Thick strands that where shed strands usually are easily identified against most backgrounds. Similar to hair found on many people of Asian or native American descent.
You can also try rolling a strand between your thumb and index finger. Coarse hair feels hard and wiry. As you roll it back and forth, you may actually hear it.
THIRD CLASSIFIER - Your overall volume of hair
Put your hair in a ponytail with as much hair as possible in it. Don't bother with the way it looks - the goal is to have most/all of your hair in there. If it means it sits smack dab on top of your head, put it there.
Measure the circumference of the ponytail. If you have bangs and/or you can't get all of your hair in there adjust according to how much of your hair you have measured.
i - thin (less than 2 inches/5 centimeters)
ii - normal (between 2-4 inches or 5-10 centimeters)
iii - thick (more than 4 inches/10 centimeters"
I'd be curious to know your type...

that is beautiful, long straight hair on mens my fav, reall nice and congratulations!
Now that's what I call HAIR!!!!

wow thats a lot of post in just a day.
first off i'd like to thank everyone for their positive comments. i was in a hair funk the past month and was thinking of cutting alot of it off. thats the reason why i went through my old pics, i wanted to see what length i should cut it too but after compiling the pictures i decided that i liked how my hair looked from mid back to waist much more than from chin length to shoulders. for the time being im only going to trim to maintain the length i have right now, i may try for terminal length sometime in the future.
as for the rate of growth i dont think its anything im doing specifically, its most likely just the genes.
absalom, im only 5'9" but i do have people mistake me for being taller only because im fairly thin. is your hair still the same length as shown in the tiedye pic? i thought i saw a recent pic you posted from canada and it looked like you trimmed some of it off.
brian, the tie is one single piece of string/cord. i use fake suede cord its sometimes called edging or trimming in the arts and crafts circles. you can find the stuff at arts and crafts stores or ebay. you can use any type of string to do the tying as native americans were resourceful people and improvised much of their cordage. ive included a pic to illustrate how i wrap the cord. im using regular white string material for these pics so its easier to see.
to do the criss cross tie you first tie your hair into a pony tail. i tie it to the side but you can make it go straight down the back if you want. its a little tricky but still easier than a braid. after you get it in a ponytail spiral the cord downward and once you get to where you want the string to end wrap it a few times to keep the end from lossening up. once you have that done all you gotta do is spiral the string back up and tie it.
another way to do it is just a single spiral straight down, kind of like a candy canes stripes. this way of tying will keep the hair straight and wont leave waves or curls in it.
heres a pic of me from the front with hair down. its not the best picture to show the full length but i really like how my hair is 'spider-webbing' around my shoulders in this one.
Hi Daedalus_Dev, you sure do look taller in some of those photos. We are the same height. Being thin also WILL make you look taller. Also one other thing you overlooked is that long flowing hair will also make you look taller as well. It is good that you are not going to do that drastic cut that you mentioned earlier.
Some guys trim their hair along their waistline to keep it to a manageable length.
My hair is currently about 18 inches past my waist and is nearly knee length which is just a tiny bit longer than in the tiedye pic. Whoever that was that posted from Canada was not me.
Absalom
I think that pretty much says it all . . . except maybe WOW!!!
Just curious; are you Native American, Latino, Asian, some combination thereof?
