Sorry about the brightness but I was sort of in a hurry when I took the pictures (I was running late for work). at any rate, my hair is a little over 6 inches now--the neck hair touches my shoulders when I stretch it and my bangs stretch in front of my eyes when stretched. and as you can probably tell, I slick back my hair with gel (Aloe Vera Gel). It makes it easier to deal with wearing the stupid caps that I have to wear as part of my uniforms.
The actual circumferance of my curls is about the size of a pencil (alot like Khleo Thomas). I didn't take a pic from the back because there is no real noticeable length back there yet :p It wont start showing up for another 5 months when I can start trying pony tails. Leave any comments if you like.
Congratulations on reaching one year of growth. I have seen guys from time to time with your hair type who have grown it long and it does turn out very well. I have worked with several black women in the past and we have had 'hair' conversations about all the stuff they have done to their hair like straightening and stuff. It sounds pretty damaging some of it! Are you going to go the natural route or something else down the road with increased length?
Good Luck!

you can see you look more masuline in the after photo , congrats on your growth man.. hopefully i can keep mine growing for a yr n have as good progress as you.
I don't plan on straightening it at all. I might braid it as it gets longer, but it's natural all the way for me! lol I think they do that because they're hair won't grow (little do they know that constantly perming/straightening their hair can slow down hair growth). But growing hair has never been a problem in my family. Even as a baby, if you stretched my hair it could probably touch my shoulders lol
Hi Frizzy Hair,
your hair looks great, it's coming along nicely - the length is quite good for one year. And, the longer it grows, the more options you have about how you wear it, especially with your hair type. I'm looking forward to your 2007 posts as well!

Hi Frizzy hair,
nice set of pics showing your progress. Congratulations on reaching a year already. Your hair appears to be very tight and kinky. We all know that curls hide length and with your African hair type, the length will be even greater consealed.
It's a long haul but you seem to know a lot about hair care stuff already and are very determined and consistent about growing your hair. I admire that you are growing it naturally without giving in to the temptations of straightening etc. It will be challenging to grow your hair long but think of the results.
You work in a coffee lounge i believe you said. I don't think they will have too much trouble with you having long hair in a ponytail? Better found out know and look for a new job if you have too. Don't do what i did and just grow it and then oneday found out you can't have longhair and have to change jobs.
All the best, Jean.
I'm not too worried. The staff at the cafe itself has no problem with my hair and neither does the parent company--MGR. However the company partner, Levy, might have a problem with it. It's company policy that they don't allow male employees to wear hair that's lower than their collars...but like you said curls hide the actual length =P at this point nobody even knows that it's been over a year since I last cut my hair. But hopefully by the time they notice I won't work there anymore. I plan on quitting at the end of the year anyway as I'm supposed to be moving to 1 of 2 countries to study. I'll either be in New Zealand or I'll be in Egypt.
On a more positive note, I notice that my elder sister's hair isn't much different from mine. When it grows long enough, i might just put my pony tale into a bun the way she does (and her hair is allllll the way down her back lol). After observing my stepmother (who's curls are about twice the circumference of mine) I also found that when your hair is long enough to put in one braid it'll easily show most of it's actual length for hours on end after you remove the braid. So I might resort to that too after my hair has been growing for about another 2 years (assuming I don't cut it off from making Hajj)
Thanks for the encouragement

Finally, lol.
As somebody pointed out, you do appear more "masculine" now than then, especially in the wet pic, and in just a year, you look quite a bit older, too. You marvel of science you. :P
I like the gelled-back look a lot! The little waves in it look spectacular, and I think ponytails are gonna be your thing. Those waves are tubular, dude. lol. Just remember that gel can leave some serious build-up over time, even those that claim to leave none. I don't think it's possible for any leave-in product to leave absolutely no build-up.
Your hair appears to be a bit tighter than I'd imagined, even though you'd described its circumference already; I think some people use the "pencil diameter" classification pretty loosely. Then again, with our tighter types of hair, it truly takes length to see what's really going on. I remember how shocked I was to see the waves in my hair after a year (and when I finally started learning what conditioner was, lol). That said, I think the real turning point and the real splendor of your updates will come around the second year of growth. And by then, any restraining styles will not only be easier to do but will show more loosening of the curls. My hair appears almost straight when it comes out of a ponytail nowadays.
Oh, and you're such a liar. Your hair doesn't look frizzy at all. :P
Keep it up, man.
Peace
