hi, all--bought myself a new set of hairsticks for my birthday, but i haven't quite mastered how to use them to hold the bun together (i have an elastic around it the pic). anybody have any suggestions?
The magic bun trick that made it all work for me was learning to take the middle coil and loosen/pull it slightly outward away from your body. The slightly loosened loop can them be stretched over those skinnier coils hiding the little ones underneath. When you put the stick in first angle the point on that thicker outer loop straight toward your head and try to catch some of those hairs closest to your scalp as you angle flat against your head into the rest of the bun. Catch the thick outer coil again as the stick exits the opposite side.
Don't know if these instuctions will help much, it makes a lot more sense showing it happen. Oh, and me just being nosy here-what brand hairsticks are they Randy? Did you get them online? It is always good to know another source of hair toys. :-)

thanks, Elizabeth; that does help. i got these on e-bay. the seller is "monkthemonk"; don't know who they're made by.
Ooh, he sells nice stuff. I bet he makes the sticks and forks himself. Thanks, Randy!

Looks good. Do you, or are you planning to, wear this style in public?
you bet. i wear it this way quite often.
Well done, your bun looks good, and I encourage you to wear it that way more often. Heres what I do with the hair sticks
After coiling the my hair into a bun, I tuck the end bit of hair into the middle (this spans midway through the entire diameter of the bun). Then I take the first hair stick and pierce it through the exact location where I tucked the last remaining bits of my hair inside, and pull it out through the other end. I take the next hair stick and pass it diognally over the first hair stick. This keeps the bun and the first hair stick intact.
