Anyone got any tips for braiding your own hair. My hair is tangled when I get out of bed in the morning, and I'm sure that braiding it would help alot. I just have no idea how...
Any help?
Hi Stefan I can't tell you much about braiding as I've never done it before but there was one tip I picked up here regarding the tangling problem in the morning after getting out of bed. Before you go to bed the night before put on a T shirt but don't pull your hair out from underneath it.Just let the hair stay between your body and the shirt. This works better if you have very long hair though as it wouldn't be much help for shoulder length. I've used this method and it does seem to help.Anyway just one idea but maybe someone else has another.Mark
Here's how I do it:
1) Dampen your hair first. I use a good dose of Infusium-23.
2) Tie your hair in a ponytail. If you want to take the ponytail band off after you've finished braiding, be sure to keep it loose.
3) Separate the ponytail into 3 sections. Make them as even as you can.
4) Hold the section on the left out of the way for the moment and cross the center section over the right section. Pull tight.
5) Take the new center section, pull it over to the left and cross it over the section that was on the left. Pull tight.
6) Take the new center section, cross it over the right and repeat steps 4 & 5 until you've gone as far as you want to go, then tie it off.
Important! Make sure your hair is damp (not wet, of course)! It's MUCH easier to braid. Be sure the 3 hair sections are as even as possible, and keep a constant tension on the hair as you braid it. I find it a lot easier to do if I'm leaning back slightly. And practice, practice, practice. Braiding does take getting used to but you can do it while you're watching TV, etc.
Good luck, and by the way, yes braiding does help TREMENDOUSLY with tangles.
Hey Mesmerized -
You might want to try using multiple ties. That does the trick for me.............and "I think" Absalom was the one who told us about it a long time ago. It would sure be more easy than braiding. Well, give it a go and see what you think.
All the best-
