I recently went to see my favorite band EMPEROR play in New York City... to make a long story short, this historical event was probably my best 2 days of the summer. Not only historical because of Emperor playing in the states, but historical because of Ardroth actually going to NYC: a place I thought I would never visit. The concert was just amazing... scores and scores of longhairs everywhere. I met a lot of awesome people, as well as one of our very own board members, Hairball! He decided to come check the concert out, and we got to chat a little before the show as well. Unfortunately, neither of us had cameras, so we couldn't take a board pic...
As for NYC... besides the obvious overpopulation, horrible visible pollution, constant daylight, noise, and smell, it was pretty cool. And to go along with RedTailWolfs post and Longhairedone's post, I was actually walking around Broadway towards Phantom of the Opera (I was going to go see it, but was too late) and these 2 middle aged women came up to me and asked me how long it took me to grow my hair out. I said 5 years... and then they started touching it and complimenting it... one of the women said she used to be a hairdresser, so she knows good hair when she sees it. The other said she would kill to have hair like mine... jeez... I guess it's normal for people on the street to just come up and touch your hair and compliment it? Anyway, I thanked them for their compliments and moved on, only to find that the last showing of Phantom was at 8:30... and it was like 8:40... crap.

Hi Ardroth,
In my experience of living in or near big cities (I'm originally from a suburb of Chicago, IL; but also lived in NYC for 3 years, back in the '80s, --- as well as currently live in SF), believe it or not there is a degree of it being somewhat "normal" for strangers on the street to just come up to you & compliment about things like hair. Although it's happening to me less nowadays (probably due to turning greyer), it still seems more likely to happen in a city than out in rural areas, --- so enjoy it, while ya got it!

Hi Ardroth,
It's nice to see that you had such a great time and also always good to meet up with a fellow board member. I've learned one thing I always take a camera with me everywhere I go just in case. I'm glad Emperior was an amazing experience and looking forward to seeing them at Wacken. I'll let you know how it went when I've been in a couple of weeks and I'm sure I can not use the word "awesome" to describe as alot of metal people do these days.
I'm sure it must have been very hot in NYC and the people are very friendly always helpful and they are not all rude.

Just wanted to let everyone here know that Ardroth is really a nice guy and I was honored to meet him!!I certainly wished we could have hung out longer but he did have his friends with him and thats cool. The good thing is he turned me onto a great group of bands and introduced me to another facet of metal that I really didn't know much about. The show was great and certainly glad I went.Too bad the rock scene here in the US is lacking as overseas seems to be with it.All in all a successful evening.Glad you had fun in the city afterwards Ardroth as I like stopping in from time to time.Being in central NJ its a short train ride to Penn Station.Sorry you missed Phantom but don't feel too bad as I've lived here all my life and never been to a broadway show!Oh well maybe someday I'll make one.Well with all its faults the city still is a great place to visit if you can stand being around LOTS of people. So hopefully I'll see you around again in the future as you've barely scratched the surface on things to see and do.Thanks again for looking for me at the club!!!Mark
Emperor are pretty awosome..i like how ishahn(is that how its spelt?) sometimes tails his hair..for some reason he looks col with it lol...looks like a ninja or something haha a black metal ninja!!!
ive given up on seeing any black metal shows here in aus...being such a small global fanbase i guess its not worth it to go over here.
