Yes, I know what many say about trimming. But, in my case, I have fine hair and some layers left over from my last real haircut several months ago. My hair felt really thin at the ends and I knew that if I got some trimmed, it would help to thicken it up more. So, today I did just that. I had a half an inch taken off the ends on the sides and around the back. And already, it looks and feels much better than it did. Now, I will leave it be for another 3 to 4 months before I have maybe another half an inch trimmed off. Eventually, I will get rid of the layers altogether and be much happier in the long run. Yes, I lost a half an inch today and it will take me a month to get that back. But, I believe that it will come back better than it was because of a little added weight.
My usual habit for myself has been to trim off about a half inch once per year (sometimes more, sometimes less); but I'm now into my 3rd year of using the "search & destroy" method of finding & trimming off split ends on my own now. Soon, though, I'll probably go to a professional for a trim, as the feeling is always nice for me afterwards. A good hair stylist is usually quite expensive (at least here in this city); but, in my opinion, WORTH IT!!!
