Hi ya'll,
First I want to express my gratitude to the folks here for offering a support circle for us longhairs.
I have had long hair for 21 years and know all to well the discrimination some of you have experienced. It can be difficult to find employment but if you present yourself in a clean and professional manner you will succeed. I was working at a whole food store for over 7 years and felt it time to move on so I quit in search of a new job. I've had several job offers that I turned down only because the job itself felt a step backwards for me. One of those happened to be for a management position in a coffee shop as mentioned in the "12 jobs for people with weird hair" article.
It can be hard but stick to your guns and don't cut your hair for a job, it makes no sense at all. The only time I cut off all my hair was for a girl and that to I learned just doesn't make sense. I felt so unlike myself and it took me a couple years to fully grow back my hair and get back my identity.
Long story short, just be yourself and people will accept you for who you are and what you're able to contribute.
Peace out,
Johnny Headset
Hi Johnny,
you're absolutely right, and what you are writing is exactly the kind of words that younger would-be longhairs need to hear when they are starting to doubt, whether or not it's right to stick to your identity.
Hope yours will grow forever!
Hans-Uwe
Way to stick to your guns! Cool hair, and cool attic room. I lived in a room like that my last year of college.
