Well. I finally got the balls to do it. I'm not sure what I think. It's different that's for sure. Could be nostalgia but I think I looked better with it long, but am more comfortable (as in physically) with it short. All the ladies at the place I went to get it done said it was in really good condition which surprised me. The best thing is that IF it's turned into a wig (whether it's free to someone of if they have to buy it) it'll be a nice one.
I got it cut kind of shaggy like how it was a few months after I started to grow it out, but it turned out looking pretty sloppy once it dried so I'm getting a friend to cut it a little shorter tomorrow, and then I'll let it grow out to cover my ears again. Apparantly the look I want is hard to cut intentionally.
I don't plan on growing it all the way out again right away but I will definitely do it again through my life. Too bad for the awkward stage, now I'm almost afraid to even try again, lol.
Anyways, it was an adventure and a great learning experience. I did like having it long but desired it short again, just needed a change is all. Best of luck to everyone who's still growing, to those of you who have stopped but are keeping it long, and to everyone in between.
Hi Keith,
I'm sure it was good that you tried out long hair for a while to see how you like it, and I wish you all the best, no matter how soon you grow it out again.
You got to find the looks that makes you feel good whenever you see yourself in a mirror.
Best wishes
Hans-Uwe
It's a good thing. You're doing what YOU want, and you got compliments. I hope you get another chance to grow out your hair again. I bet you'll miss it.
I just had a VERY lengthy update but then my computer decided to freeze and I lost it. Since I have work in half an hour this will be short.
I don't regret having it cut at all. I'm enjoying having shorthair almost as much as having long. The benefits so far have been:
-driving without worrying about being blinded by flying hair
-no hair sticking to my sweaty face
-cool breeze on my scalp
-no brushing
-showers are a few minutes shorter
Neutral observations:
-making strange gestures like trying to push my hair behind my ears, or grabbing at air before I lean over
-facial hair is more apparant.
-the part on the top of my head is still there
-probably some people will take me more seriously
-I didn't get yelled at by anyone. Nobody has told me I looked bad with long hair either!
Negative:
-I look younger
-bed head
-hair is messed up by the wind and there's nothing I can do besides carry a hat, or use a product like gel. I think it was Tai-Fu who said that short hair really isn't any easier to care for, he's probably right.
-no feeling of uniqueness, no longer do I visually stand out from the crowd
I will definitely grow it for a few months to achieve the shaggy look I was hoping for (do not go to CoolCuts). At that point it will getting cooler with winter approaching and I'll decide if I want to grow it long again. The timing will put me in the worst of the akward stage during the winter which will make things much easier(because I will be wearing a knit hat most of the time). By spring it would be to my nose, by next winter I could push it behind my ears, and a year after that it would be where it was last week. As they say, the second time around is always easier so I'm leaning that way.
