Hello All,
My hairdresser of 16 years has retired. Any advice on finding a new one that I can trust? I have waist length all one length hair and last had a maintenance trim last September. I don't really want to grow my hair much longer due to sports and life style. Eventually I will have to get it trimmmed again. Thanks for any advice and good look in regards to growing your hair!
Sincerely,
Darrin
Hi Darrin,
Congratulations to you, I wish my hair were at waist length, and I had to say "Oh, I don't want to sit on it, I'll get another trim" :-) This must be a great feeling!
To answer your question: The easiest would be to spot another man with very long hair who seems to get trims from time to time (eg because his lower ends are all in one line), and just ask him what hairdresser does it for him.
If in doubt, wait a little longer, or put on lots of hair bands and carefully chop off an inch yourself with a VERY sharp pair of scissors - that'll always be better than having the wrong stylist ruin it.
All the best!

Personally, if you have one-length hair and it's all even, you can just trim it yourself with some good quality hear shears. I never find a hairdresser I could trust, probably because all the barbershops/salons my family goes to are crap. They ruined my hair a while back, and I am still trying to forget.
Kind of depends where in the world you live.
I keep a small list of trusted hair places and hairdressers that people have submitted on my site.
Hi Darrin,
I changed hairdressers 6 years ago, taking a recommendation from a female friend of mine who has hip-length hair. Turns out the guy more or less "specializes" in long hair (or at least he has quite a following here in San Francisco). So my thought is... if you don't know any local longhaired men to ask where they go or who they'd recommend, then chances are a longhaired woman would at least know!
One more comment: be prepared to pay a higher price for someone who's really good with hair. I avoid "Supercuts", or other similar cheap hair salon chains, at ALL costs, --- I've only heard horror stories come out of places like that!!!

Yes, avoid like the plague the so-called "Supers" that cut cheap, lest you may possibly end-up carrying your hair out in a paper bag and your head will now shine in the dark.
Thanks again for all of your advice! It was all good!
