I've been wondering wether men in the police force can have long hair, or is it just the women who are allowed, because i'm not sure how it is here in Sweden. I only now that in the Swedish military service it's ok to have longer hair, as long as you keep it secured either in a ponytail or have it in a net.
Why not ask as you are resident? It would be interesting to know if the US/Western mentality is restriucted or all pervading.
I dont know about Sweden (I am rather surprised you can have long hair in the army since most forces you to cut it) but I do know that the law enforcement communities in many "free" countries allow girls to have long hair but not guys... kinda like military.
Hmmmm quite surprised at that Military service allowing long hair Gee Im in the Wrong Country !!!!
I saw one male NYPD officer in NYC with a fairly long pony-tail... Most of them had crew cuts though. I'm sure there is some sort of policy though.

NYPD does allow long hair on guys, although I think it's just about the only police force in the US that does, and has only allowed it fairly recently. I think that it's subject to the same rules as female officers, and can't be worn down on duty.
Here in DC we have a law against hair style discrimination, and yet I haven't seen any long-haired cops. Probably they would have to make it a test case in court to get their rules changed.
Hello,
In trips to New York, in the early eighties, I do remember seeing male police officers in their cruisers with what is now called "shaggies", or hair covering their ears sticking out from under their caps. A 1981 movie called "Toxic Avenger" has actors playing cops, and they sport the hairstyles I noticed back then.
Maybe hair rules were enforced on and off and now they were abolished, while paradoxicaly, the Sanitation dept wants garbage men to abide by a grooming code and the union fought it.

Have a nice day,

I don't know since all male swedish cops I've seen so far have had it crew cut and I would guess it's part of the mentality in the police force. Allthough more uncommom these days with the gouverment shutting down many major regiments, all males by the time they reach the age of 18 are forced to be tested wether or not they would be suitible to be put under a specific army training. Nowadays by the time you do these tests you could easily just refuse their recomendations but still there are some who aren't so pleased doing military their service at all. And some of them have their hair grown long before they begin their training. I'm not saying all longhairs in the swedish army are unhappy just being there but they may not have the same personal goals as a police recruite who dedicates his life to this profession. And while carrying out a profession there are certain unwritten rules that you should look representative to the company and, more in this job than anything perhaps, to the public.
Summing these thoughts out; people doing their military services may not have any plans working with similar tasks under similar conditions in the future while male cops do their profession until the day of retirement.
Why don't you ring up the local police and find out?
Or do some research on the net? I bet the answer is simply "no".
