...ok so after reading around on here for the past 2 years, Ive come to notice that most people are really into taking care of their hair. Whether it be fine and straight, or thick and curly, everyone has their own opinions of what you should and definately shouldnt do. But after all this, I still stick to the basics and I have very good hair(at least in my eyes...not trying to brag)
I ALWAYS wear my hair down and loose, wouldnt have it any other way. Yet I still surf and let the waves and saltwater twist and tangle my hair, Im in the sun a lot receiving "damage" from the light, and I also skateboard which means lots of wind to tangle my hair. I dont do anything special to it when I sleep at night.
All I do is shower once a day, sometimes every other day, and shampoo and condition my hair with general loreal paris products.(dont ask why i choose that company, its just what I happened to have when i started growing and i continue to use it) then I get out of the shower and finger comb and then use a wide tooth comb to sort out the tangles. Thats it.
Does anyone else take this approach? I always hear of the troubles of longhair, one the frustations is it takes too much time. I honestly probably spend about 10 minutes on my hair each day, hardly taking up too much time especially to the point of frustration.
So, I dont know where Im headed with this, I thought Id just put it out there and let you guys discuss with me.
Hi Jason Ummagumma,
you're right: if it works, it's right. Clearly, hair care is not so much about philosophies, but about results, i.e. what works with any given kind of hair. You seem to be blessed with robust and easy-to-care-for hair.
Where you're going? Well, I'd say towards even longer healthy hair, possibly waist-length or longer, or, in any case, as long as you want.
Happy growth!
Hans-Uwe
Exactly! It's no trouble at all, is it?
The only problem I have ever had with the whole hair growing thing at all was having to keep it shortened for employers.
As we both know, everyone has a different hairtype. The quicker one finds what works best for them the better..........and it usually comes out in the catagory of "basic" from what I have observed. (The most successful ones all seem to fall into this catagory eventually.)
That's because you don't need to with your type hair and luckily have figured-out the "non-complicated" route to very good success. So many other guys could learn a valuable lesson from you, but alas get themselves trapped in the "complicated mode" so to speak. Let's face it, if nature didn't want Sun on our hair she wouldn't have allowed the Sun to shine for fear of damage. There would be no Ocean nor wind. We might as well all live in a bubble!
Once found, it really is so simple. Hey, isn't finger combing great! I have to thank EdG for that wonderful tip. And look what he has aquired just doing the "simple" rather than getting himself involved with so many self-imposed complications that can make a nightmare for one with longhair.
Well, some time has to be spent, but it isn't really that bad at all.........that is if you "really" desire long hair. Just count up the minutes spent on other things: time it takes to get dressed, brush teeth, eat, watch tv, play Video games.........whatever! So, what is the big deal about spending a mere 10 minutes or so per day with the hair?
Me too.
Thanks so much for doing so.
What you mentioned is one of the reasons I allowed my hair to dreadlock. With curly hair I had tangles out the wazoo and was having to spend tons of money on all these special products to keep my hair "looking nice". So I let it go, I wash my hair about once a week (sometimes every other week) and don't detangle, or condition, and now I've got a crop of very healthy dreadlocks :D

I've always wanted to dread my hair, My mom says no though. I had her talked into it once but a few days before I did it, she changed her mind. She said I could when I graduated from highschool, so 4 more years :(
I have really thick extremely curly blondish brown hair thats about 7-8 inches long. I wash it once a day and comb it while im in the shower. I dont really avoid things that do damage to my hair, such as salt water or the sun or chlorine. I dont let my hair limit me on my fun, know what I mean? Ill go out and play football on a dirty windy playground even though it can damage my hair pretty bad. My philosophy: Its's hair, it'll grow back. More power to you if you can take care of it. I tried but im just too lazy... :\
Hey Jason, whatever works for you, your hair is gorgeous and I hope you grow it a little longer anyway!!! One question? Are you happy with your beautiful, str8, blond hair???
John
I don't spend much time on my hair either...all I do is shampoo it every 2-3 (I have a oily scalp),condition it every day, fingercomb it,let it dry by itself...just the basic things!!
Sounds like me, just get up, wash & condition, comb and then I'm off... I was in a bit of a hurry this morning, so I was looking at the time to check that I could make it to work. I used 10 minutes.
I also always wear my hair loose. If it's really really really windy, I might ponytail it, but it's rare. I don't think I have any pony-bands right now.
