Well, I made it. Just a few days shy of 3 years. To be honest, I wasn't sure I'd make it back then, but I'm happy to say, I have! As mentioned in my earlier post with a pic of my braided ponytail (see a few posts down), I had one minor trim in November 2003 and a more serious trim about this time last year to cut off as 1 to 2 inches of damaged hair (due to getting highlights in 2003, before I knew how to care for my hair). Doesn't look like I need a trim anytime soon - hair still looks healthy.
Some thoughts... monthly progress is getting harder to notice at this point. I thought I'd have longer hair by this point - my hair grows more slowly than I'd like. It's also thinner than I'd like. Looks thicker after washing and drying on its own (about 2 hours now). Also more wavy when it air dries. Once I comb it, most of the waves disappear.
Not too many negative comments from others thus far. Mid back length hair is my goal, which should be attained in another two years or so, taking into account one more trim. Then I'll decide what length I want, maybe even out the ends.
I forgot to post a the link listed below in my earlier message. It's got some pics of me when I was younger, plus a pic of me at the beginning of my longhair journey (pic of me in Kennebunkport, Maine and I was also in much better shape)!
Some random older pics of me
Peter, your hair looks fantastic! Very healthy looking, and an altogether nice appearance (both in the Kennebunkport photo, and now).
Keep it growin'!
peace,
dino
Hi Dino, thanks for the compliments. I'd love to get back in shape, even the way I looked in the Kennebunkport photo, although I could do better than that. I can just imagine how I'd look in that shape with long hair!
Your hair is looking great. Trims do slow your growth rate, but you needed to get the damaged part removed. Keep growing it.
Absalom
Yes, I try to keep trims down to a minimum. The first trim wasn't necessary, but I trusted the hairdresser who was telling me I needed a trim every three months. I'd never get anywhere at that rate! The second trim was needed for sure, and only the minimum was taken off, although it was still more than I wanted. And that it for trims! Might go for another one in a year or so.
Hey...............isn't it fabulous when you finally arrive! Good job and looks terrific. You made it!
BRAVO! :-)
Yes, I made it to three years. I was worried I'd be pressured to cutting my hair long ago, but luckily that wasn't the case. Still not at my goal length of mid-back, but it won't be long before I get there now.
Thanks!
Congratulations! Three years seems like a long thime when you are going through it,
but when the time is behind you, waiting three years isn't so bad.
Hair looks great and well-cared for.
Good Luck!
Yes, when three years are behind you it doesn't seem so bad. The first year or so, I was obsessing over my hair all the time. Maybe the next couple of years will go by even quicker and I'll be at my goal length before I know it!
Yes, the first year or so, most guys can be found obsessing over their hair all the time.
But after 2 or 3 years we get 'used' to it and we just let it grow.
WOW looks great!!! super job! loks great loose and in a tail Take care
