Hello,
Ive kind of decided i wanted to grow my hair out and have a few Qs. I started growing my hair out when i was 15/16 but i couldnt handle the awkward phase and just gave up.
i had a haircut that was very short at the beginning of the year, and about 4 months ago I had a haircut all around the perimeter of my hair to cut off the curls. None of the top of my head was cut. I hoped this would also make the hair grow a bit more evenly. Its not very long at all, my fringe is about an inch from my nostrils when pulled straight.
A pic of me i took just now is: http://img107.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mesn5.jpg
These are my questions.
my hair is not curly, until it comes to the end of the strand. then it curls right round, even sopping wet. At the moment i dry my hair with a hairdryer and the curls on my fringe all go to the left. Sometimes they start turning round to face directly away from me (IE, curl outwards) which looks ridiculous but doesnt happen that often. My question is what shoudl i do in a few months time when if i leave it as it is it will just be covering my eyes. A center parting wont really work as all my hair curls in one direction....
second, on the left hand side of my head there is one bit of hair which causes me trouble. Its incredibly dry and gets knotted incressantly. Its only one small clump. I remember months and months ago before my haircut that this same bit of hair would get knotty and dry. I'm treating it with conditioner but its not making much difference. Anyone got any ideas?
Also, what sort of headshapes suit long hair in general? or does it not matter? as my pis shows, i have quite a long, oval hed which im not sure will suit longer hair.
Anyway, thanks alot
hey dude, use a hair straightener to help get through the awkward stage I am now...and it is paying off
How do you use the straightener ??
Will it damage the hair as it gets longer ??
Too much straightening will damage it VERY BADLY.
i had to cut of my (nearly) 2 foot long hair because i'd straightened it so much parts of it didn't even resemble hair anymore, it was straw-like cotton wool crap!
if you don't do it too often, use protective sprays and don't use a very hot one (i used one over 200 degrees celsius) it shouldn't be too bad. Be careful!!...
ps. some say that too much straightening will slow down hair growth due to the heat involved, but i dunno how factual that is....!
Hi klep,
first, your head shape is perfect for long hair - don't let others (eg mom) tell you otherwise! Rather, happy growth forever!
Concerning that knotty strand, just treat it with an "anti-frizz" balm before and after untangling, a clear oily consisting of dimethicone plus cyclomethicone and almost no other ingredients. You also can try some kind of greasy pommade, or you can try both in combination (anti-frizz fluid first).
Wishing you Happy growth, Hair Peace, and lots of perseverance,
Hans-Uwe
If part of your hair is real dry try putting some oil (not much!) on it. some guys here swear by jojobba oil which is available at places like health food stores and vitamin shops.
stop using the hair dryer--that's bad for your hair on high and hot--may be helping create the one dry part you have.
when it's damp, try using a cylindrical styling brush to straighten out the curling parts at the ends. you rotate the brush and wrap the curly parts around it while moving out so they become straight or curl in the opposite direction and dry straight. you have to be a bit careful with it however--don't let it pull on your hair. let it air dry when you are done. a certain amount of chaos is unavoidable. just get into a hair routine and forget about it. Avoid obsessing about it all the time--if you let it get to you, the awkward stage will seem to last 30 years and you'll go nuts, give up and get it cut off.
