Hey guys. I recently got my hair trimmed. The stylist said that I didn't have many split ends and that my hair was very healthy. It had been about 8 months since I had been so she was very impressed with my progress. I had about half an inch taken off the back. Also I'm trying a new part, a little more towards the center. Comments are always welcome. Thanks, and keep growing.
Hi Katamah,
apparently, things worked out very well for you, and, clearly, your progress is impressive. Thanks for posting your newest picture!
Happy growth forever!

About 14 months from a mohawk.
Good progress Katamah..hair looks healthy.
Cheers

Then why did she trim it?
Once again, why did she even bother to trim your hair when she felt your progress was so great and your hair so healthy. Could it have been the almighty dollar she had to gain?
That sets you backwards by a months growth.
Believe me, when it comes to a center part you don't even have to try once your hair is long enough. Your natural center part will appear all by itself as it does with everyone else who has long hair. But it has to grow to that point. And, you look as if you are starting to get close.
Your hair looks super great! I just cannot see any logical reasoning however of getting a trim when you are not having any problems and your hair is growing-out so well,is vibrant and healthy. My best to you for longer hair in the months and years to come. Your hair looks to be ideal to work with.
Because I asked her to. I think it is good to have the ends trimmed a bit about every 6 months. To me it just feels healthier.
It's only off the back. I'm keeping the back at shoulder length until the sides and bangs can catch up. From there I will let it all grow as far as it can, togather, at one length. It's a style preferance.
Thanks for your comments. I know that some of you guys view getting a trim as a very negative thing. I view it positivly. This is what I want for my hair. The amount to get the ends and splits taken out is about a weeks growth and that doesnt bother me at all. Plus the length off the back is what I asked her to do. Really, if you have a stylist you trust keeping your ends healthy isn't a bad thing. And I do trust this person She works out of her home, not for a salon, she simply enjoys working with hair. She is very well off and does not need the money. When I began growing my hair out the first time she was very supportive and was dissapointed when I got it cut. I couldn't even go to her to get the cut because I knew I would get a lecture.
I'm just confused as to why it upsets some people when the person getting the trim is informed, and the person doing the trim does what the other wants. I understand alot of guys have horror storys about stylists taking too much off or they think it will help them through the awkward stage and it becomes a disaster. But I've never understood the problem with taking care of your ends. I'm aware you can do it yourself but I dont want to screw my hair up. I'd rather use a professional that I trust.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Thanks again for the comments. I really appriciate your support. Your hair, and that of others who have ACTUAL long hair, have always been a point of inspiration for me.
I agree Katamah. I also recently had a half inch trim on the sides and around the back. In my case though, it's because I have some layering in those areas that I want to lose because my hair is really fine and I think it would work better to have it all one thickness. I also agree that having the ends trimmed once every six months or so is not a bad thing. It just a good way to assure that you're cleaning up whatever split ends you have. I don't think I would ever be comfortable trying to clip those myself either. My hair felt and looked so much better after my trim too. Yes, it does set me back a month in terms of overall growth, but a month really isn't much at all in the bigger picture. I'm still in the awkward stage. So, I will have to endure that a little longer now, but I know I'll be happier in the long run. Keep growing. You hair looks fantastic! I can only hope mine will look as good in the near future as yours does now.
Katamah, your hair looks great... looks like it has a lot of life to it, and a nice shine.
peace,

Looks great! I think small trims are fine as long as you trust the cutter...and she did a great job. Onward and downward to your goal!
Awesome growth, man! And the new part looks better on you, IMO. A bit more natural and laidback/metal-heady (which is kind of an oxymoronic juxtaposition, really).
Peace back atcha
Looking good as always, Katamah!
Side part is cool, dont know if my hair is long enough to do that yet or if my hair will fall out from behind my ears if I try it. Maybe will experiment :)
