Finished sunburst except for more clear coat and polish. This will take a while because I need to shoot one coat a day (and carefully too cause its humid in taiwan and things tend to blush) then it will be done....
Looks good! Shooting sunburst freehand must be tough, I'm really impressed by how even it all looks. What color was it originally?
The body is a 2004 Fender American Deluxe 2 peice alder body. It looked something like this. Its basically transparant amber color... however I did not like the way it looks because it looks too dark, has no colors, and basically that color should only be used on ash anyways. First I had to strip the poly finish, and that is a pain because Fender and others uses this cat. poly finish which is extreamly durable and is unaffected by most chemicals, including lacquer thinner and even paint stripper. Only product that will work is a product called "aircraft stripper" and it needs at least 30 minutes to eat the finish before you can scrap it, so I just took sandpaper to it. Then after that initially I dyed the wood yellow however it is hard to dye wood because any sand through will show up, and also my first sunburst attempt turned out bad, then I had sprayed a coat of incompatible paint by accident, so I stripped and started over. This time around it was much easier, brush on lacquer thinner, let it sit, and scrape off. I applied the black free hand using a spray paint, and I sprayed the dye on by dissolving the aniline dye into lacquer thinner, then used a cheap airbrush with propel can to spray it.
I think I should buy a more expensive airbrush cause the model airbrush spits alot, plus the parts are not too good against lacquer....
Now that i like - feel like donating it to a good cause (ie me)?
awsome job tai. i like how your sunburst has a hint of cherry colouring to it
i see the neck and bridge is routed for humbuckers good choice ;)
Since when does precious and costly bandwith need to be wasted on guitars?
Since when does precious and costly bandwidth need to be wasted on whiney responses like that?
This isn't the first or only post regarding guitars around here, from Tai Fu or others for that matter. There are quite a few guitarists around here as far as I know...
That said, I'm sure if the individual paying for the bandwidth had a real problem with it, there would've been something said by now - although I stand open to correction here if I'm mistaken.

That's pretty good man! What's that back look like?

This is my second attempt as a matter of fact.... The back is the same, but theres a few spits here and there cause the cheap hobby airbrush spits like crazy... My first attempt ended in disaster because the first time around the burst was real thick, that was due to murphy law, as in I accidently touched something and it made some nasty marks in the body, then next thing I know I used the wrong kind of paint and I had to start over.
