I have short hair, like just over half an inch or so. How long will it take me to grow enough hair to do this style:

help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
That's still rather short, would propably take a couple of months.
I've been told it may take 3 to 4 months? but if it really would take just a couple of months that would be cool!
Well, it all depends on how fast your hair grows, that differs from person to person. Also, I'm not american so inches doesn't really mean anything to me. I guess I used couple in a wrong sense, as I meant it as 'not very long' rather than 'two months'.
But again, depending on your hairgrowth it's probably 2-4 months. YMMV.
ok, thanks a lot for the help man
I find my hair grows faster in the Summer !!
I find my hair smells like sh!t in the summer! really, it does. Damn sweat!
It may talk about 5 months... that would be my estimate =) Maybe 4 months though
thanks for replying!
James....Human scalp hair grows on average about 1/2"(13mm) a month.
The hair in the photo looks to be about 2 and a half inches on top. If your hair is already half an inch, then that would seem to be about 4 months.
A little about the average rate of growth. Think of a natural forest as opposed to a Weyerhauser Tree Farm. A forest has older trees and younger trees. The older trees are not growing very much. Some of the younger trees are growing at a very rapid clip and then will settle down a bit in middle age. Some of the older trees are near the end of their life and will soon die and are barely growing in height or girth at all. It is similar with hair. Each shaft has a terminal length and not all shafts grow to the same terminal length. Some of the very young hairs are growing very fast. However since your hair is short you really don't know which are young hairs and whcich are old. This is why with shorter haircuts most guys must get them cut frequently to look good, and much of the talk of split ends etc is really just the differences in hair growth rates between hair shafts of varying ages. In addition most men beyond the teenage years are thinning to some degree on top. The hairs there are on their way to transforming from terminal hairs to the vellus stage and the replacement shafts are becoming thinner and thinner. This is very noticeable when one sees a lot of frizzy hair above the bulk of the hair on someone with longer hair or even on the top of the head with some guys with hair that is cut short on the back and sides but a couple of inches long on top. Those frizzy hairs are the hair shafts that are thinning and are progressing to vellus hairs.
I guess the point in saying all of this is because with some guys up to 35% of the hair can be at the resting stage at any one time so if those resting hairs are only half an inch long, and it takes them on average 2 months before they fall out then depending on how thick your hair is, to get a satisfactory look for a haircut like that may take longer than 4 months. One must also factor in how much quicker the new shafts will grow than the middle aged shafts. With some guys there seems to be little difference in growth rates between hairs of varying ages and their hair seems to grow at the same rate and stay looking fresh and evenly cut for months after a haircut but with others it is very noticeable that hair is growing at different rates even after only 10 days to two weeks.
I really appreciate the help man. That was a very detailed post. Thanks a lot!

Throw away any scissors you may own,
smash any clippers and avoid all temptations to go in barbers, stylists or similar,
ignore well meaning friends and relative who suggest that you hair is untidy or
too long or
will grow quicker if you cut it.
then in about 4-6 months you wil be happier.
Every month thereafter will simply bring added pleasure as you meet your goal.
