I've been growing my hair for just over a year now. It seemed to grow a lot for the first 6 to 8 months, but now I'm not noticing it get any longer. I've heard that the hair needs to be trimmed up about an inch every six months or so to freshen the ends. Anybody have any insight on this? I won't cut it short again, but willing to bring it up an inch if I can get more growth.
If I remember correctly, your hair is wavy or curly, right? Well, at about that same point (6-8 months) my wavy hair also looked like it had stopped growing. The truth was, it was hitting my collar and curling up...still growing, but the curling up meant that the length didn't show as readily. When it got long enough to get past the collar, the new growth was more noticeable. Trims are fine if you hate the shape or style of your hair, or if there is noticeable damage of split ends (you can see the splits if you look closely at the ends of individual hairs-and if you take good care of your hair, splits should be unlikely at this point), but other than that, a trim won't promote more growth, it just removes length.
Hello,
I agree completely with you. In addition I want to say I have heard (from a hairdresser in another message board) that hair can have a rest period, after that it will continue growing.
