Hi guys, haven't been around this board much lately, but I figured I'd stop in and throw out a few pictures.
I've been posting on and off on this board for YEARS, but I don't know that I've posted many pictures in the past. I just took a few last week with my new camera, though, so I wanted to share them here.
Quick history of my hair:
-Started growing it out in 7th grade
-Undercut from 8th grade until I was 17 or so, when it started thinning a bit
-Finally got to it's longest (about 3" above my waist when pulled straight) when I was 19 or 20
-Got a trim in April of 2004, and thanks to male pattern baldness it didn't grow much longer from there
-Currently about chest length, and I think it's at its terminal length. It's been longer in the past, but balding it taking its toll.
-Just added some highlights and cut in a few layers about three weeks ago (no length taken off, just needed to even it up, trim off split ends, and give it some shape)
For the past five years or so I've only been going for trims about every two years, and I usually get color done then, too. Now days I'm not as focused on gaining length (since this is as long as it's getting it seems) so I'm going to be going to a stylist more often (2-3 times annually) to have a trim, get it relayered, and have my color brightened back up. I've lost a lot of the vibrancy that my natural color had when I was younger. For the record, I'm 22 now.
Love to get some feedback, as this community was always a huge help to me when I first started growing my hair.

looks cool man!
Thanks!
Jeez... You're still younger!
The best thing to do is to stop cutting, stop layering, stop coloring. Your hair looks good, but I think it'll look even better if you do that.
I'll be 60 in September.
Thanks for the reply.
When my hair was thicker, I definitely took a different approach to caring for it. I almost never blowdried and heat styled it, only got microtrims (or did them myself) every six months to a year, and only got highlights (if anything) leaving most of my hair virgin.
However, as I mentioned in another post, I have a bit of "help" up top now days to get the density I want and it helps to have layers to blend in the extra hair.
I understand I'm still very young, with a lot of life ahead of me (I hope!), and I think that my color loss is mostly part of my hairloss. It runs in my family to have very bright red/auburn hair through childhood and adolescence but to have darker, duller hair as it thins out up top.
Thanks again for your reply.
I think your hair looks good but I'm going to say it looks good *despite* the layering. I don't see the evidence of MPB that apparently you do but if it's really happening, why reduce the bulk of your hair further by getting layers?
Dude, you're 22! I've never heard of people losing vibrancy of color at such a young age but you're the best judge.
I should have mentioned, I have a good bit of "help" up top as far as density goes. I actually don't have much hair at all on the top of my head, from the hairline to the crown. That's also part of the reason that I have layers, to blend in the added hair.
I had noticed it myself, but I thought I was imagining things to be honest. It wasn't until I had to get my natural hair colored to match the "added" hair on top that I realized I'd started to lose a lot of my natural red.
Clarification: What do you mean by "help" & "added"?
Whatever you're doing looks great. Cool red beard too!

Basically, I've blended in some hair that's not my own. More or less like a hairpiece, though I do still have some hair up top (I keep it short, though, since it was only fine wispy hair that wouldn't actually grow long). Before that I'd tried all the spray on hair stuff, which worked for a while, but once I got to a certain point I was too thinned out to get any use from it (which is when I switched to using hair replacement).
Thanks a ton!
I don't see any evidence of the baldness happening that you mentioned whatsoever. In fact, I think your hair looks hands-down AWESOME!

Thanks! I'm not fully bald, but I do use a few different products (and some added hair) to get a fuller look.
Hi Evan,
you got phantastic long hair and a great color! I agree with the other posters - no visible trace of MPB - nothing to worry about. And, as Pat S. sugested, the presence of MPB shouldn't stop you from growing it. Maybe it would be even better if you stopped getting it layered, just a thought.
Happy growth forever! Hope the remaining 80% of your likfe will be at least as happy!
