Hi all,
First off, I'm ashamed... Ashamed that I'm a fair weather friend of MLHH. I'm ashamed that I remain as a lurker on this board, reading great posts of yours with astounding frequency (at least thrice per day), without even popping in to contribute. I'm silently admiring your amazing and awe-inspiring hairs, your updates, witty responses and wise advice. I'm sure I've got absolutely nothing else to contribute... except posting some updates on my hair :).
Due to hectic preps for my wedding and also, into my final year of PhD studies, I gotten myself into an unexpected "hair depression" last month, there were times where I found my hair annoying and had flashes (but only flashes) of cutting it. But it took all of 3 seconds to put that thought away. Nevertheless, I was less than satisfied with my hair during that period due to neglect, poor hair quality and bad mood. I'm off of it now and hope to document this passing as a milestone.
For the record, I've never had "really short hair" since 1999. Hope you'll enjoy my pics... there'll be seven of them :).
Nice Hair! You mentioned prepping for a wedding. Has that happened yet? Does your wife/wife-to-be like it?
It'll be happening on 9th Sep, and 10th Sep. The former's my solemnization ceremony at a local church, and the latter's a wedding banquet on a cruise. You are all invited ;), if you do not mind making your way to Singapore, that is, hee...
My wifey-to-be have some complaints every now and then, but that's usually due to "external" pressure in the form of undesirable comments from others. She's ok with my extra long hair in general, and she has waist-length hair herself :).
Hey man what kindof work do you do? Like right there in the picture. Are you in I.T. or what? And im guessing they certainly tolerate long hair in there which is great. i hope i could get into that kinda longhair-friendly workplace atmosphere like the one you're in sometime after my schooling days!
Right on! I'm doing research on computational simulation of nanomaterials. That makes me a somewhat IT person? It is basically long-hair friendly, no one made any scathing comments on my hair at my work place. I can even try out different styles for work.
"Hope you'll enjoy my pics... there'll be seven of them :)."
~patiently awaiting the other six~ :)
Jin, you have one of the best heads of hair to ever grace this board. Truly an inspiration! Assuming your fiancee is the same girl you've showed us before, is her hair still as long as it was before? I thought the two of you together both with such exceptional hair was an amazing sight to see!
Yes, not much changes :).
Just as the world goes, the longer one's hair get, increasing pressure is felt from others, asking "why grow so long", "do you intend to cut it", and "don't you feel hot in this humid/hot weather". I got asked the last questions in two continents... In Singapore (Asia) and Los Angeles (North America) :).
We are just not succumbing to it ;)
Great Hair Jin.
Truely Inspiring!
One with a temporary henna tattoo on my arm. Got it just for my wedding photo shoot.
I went for a computational congress at Los Angeles, CA between 16 - 22 July. Here I am, fooling around in my own hotel room balcony at Hyatt Regency Century Plaza (Beverly Hills).
love the pic,,,really gorgeous hair,,,,do u have any ...tricks?
Not really, no specific tricks. But if it helps at all, I use "Mane n Tail" Deep moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and "Joico" clarifying shampoo (Resolve) and moisturizer conditioner (both Joico products are silicone-free). I wash my hair every three days, and alternate my washes between Mane n Tail and Joico.
In addition to that, I apply "leave-in conditioner" - Bealite after towel-drying my hair.
I've once read that, due to the drying effects of shampoo, the guideline is to shampoo less than 150 times per year, that makes about 2.5 per week, that's why I wash every third day :).
Other than that, nothing else.
Hi Jin , your hair will look more superb when they touch the floor from the chair
Ashwin
My message went into screening and, for neatness sake, I did not want to open new threads just to post my pics. I went to bed after posting (Singapore's in a different time zone), waited for this message to be posted, before adding the other six. No intent to tease you guys :).
So here goes, the second pic on a half-tail...
Back view, showing full length :)
Hey Jin ,
Great hair jin .Absolutely stunning .No need to trim at all ..Just dip our ends in good hair oil , apply oil on scalp and from top to ends and keep growing
Ashwin
Hey Jin ,
Hair covering your trousers pocket will just look fantastic and stunning .All the best and great growing .
How long your hair grows in a year ?
Aswin
Thanks ashwin :). I did not really keep a record of my growth, based on my perception, it's probably currently growing at the normal rate of 6" per year
Your growth rate is quite good .In a years time your hair will probably reach upto your butts , ashwin
Hey Jin , what is your current hair length from root to ends
Ashwin
The last time I measured was about 3 years ago, it was then 31". Probably about 36" to 40" now, I had a trim of 3" in-between.
Good length Jin . Keep it up, ashwin
Working on my presentation in hotel room...
Funky pic... "drowned" in my own sea of hair...
GREAT hair, Jin! Congratulations on your wedding!

Hey, man, I replied to your other post. It's a bit down the board, if you didn't see it.
Yup. Peace out
GREAT pics, Jin, --- and even more amazing hair!!!
No need to worry about being a "fair weather friend", as we all do that to some degree... It's just nice to have you when we get you!
Take care.

Thanks for your post :). It's always nice to have all of you here, it's THE REASON why I check on MLHH at least 3 times per day :)
Hey Jin ,
You got really nice long hair .Hope you saw my knee length hair photos which i posted some where in april - may 2006 .Your patience of growing your hair since last 6.5 years has paid .I have been growing mine since 10 years .
Good that oyu decided not to cut your hair even though you had flashes of doing so .Never do that .Growing so long takes 6.5 years and chopping them off does not even takes 6.5 secs .
Like you mant people do ask me why I have grown my mane so long ? dont i feel hot .My answer to them is just grow your self and feel it . you never would like to cut them .Even women grow their hair long and never feel hot .
Congratulations on your marriage .Noted that even your would be wife has waist length hair .Can you post hers and your photo together with both of you showing your hairs .
How does she feels abt your hair .She will really enjoy styling and brushing your hair .Can you also post few of your pics with braid styles ? Dont ever cut your beautifull hair .Let it grow atleast much they can .
Once your hair touches the floor when you sit on the ground you will really feel proud that ya now I have hair to be called looong
All the best and keep growing without having and flashes of cutting them ,
Ashwin ( from India )
I think I've missed it. But would love to see them :).
I've posted it before too ;), sometime during last year. I do not mind posting it again.
To be frank, she occasionally felt I should cut my hair. She initially felt quite strongly against me having such long hair but her views changed when I introduced her to this hyperboard. She was impressed that so many people here showed support and encouragement to men growing their hair out, and was surprised that some had hair longer than mine :). From then on, she was more supportive and talking about styling and brushing my hair... I don't think she enjoys it, not yet, I hope :).
Thanks, Ashwin :)

Your hair is amazing, Ashwin. Not only is the length amazing, it is so thick. Your braid is as thick as my wrist. It is truely amazing. Grow it to the floor, if you can.
Absalom
Thanks Absalom for your compliments .Lets see if they can grow upo floor length ,ashwin
Yeah Jin, It would be nice to see your hair done up in different styles as well, like the braid and bun.
Ashwin, you've got some amazing hair. Do you take care of it all by yourself, or is it also your wife who brushes it daily? Whats your daily hair care routine like? By the way, you aint Sikh, are you? Hope to hear from you soon. Danny
Hi Danny ,
You are right that jin should post some photos in different styles .I as well as my wife both together take care of my hair .On week days I brush on my own with few strokes from my wife .On week ends she manages my hair as I wash them every sunday .Some times even she helps with shampooing and drying .
On sundays she devotes full time for my hair , drying , tying it in turban towel as well as brushing and braiding.
No i am not a sikh , but just growing my hair for fun and satisfaction ,Ashwin
Ashwin,
why do you need help from your wife? You just take your wig of and that's that. It's so obvious you wear a wig. Come on.
geez, Patrick, he has typical thick Indian/Subcontinent hair...and is a bit clumsy with the braid.
Chill. It's real. (although the braid pic made me look twice)
wish my hair was like that ... but all the Indian and Pakistani women I've befriended want my hair. go fig.

Hi Jin
Here are my photos ,
I got the impression that you are a lady before seeing your pics. Your hair's truly inspiring, it's thick and silky.
Now, I'll fulfil my side of promise...
Yes, Jin Many people have that misconception .To avoid such misunderstandings I started wearing my hair in bun and covering it with cloth/ turban or covering it with hood cap on the t-shirt .
Hope my hair will inspire you to grow yours longer and longer ..
Thanks for your and your fiancee pic but it is taken in dark .Can you post one more , latest where both of you are together .
Also would like to see your pics in buns , ponytails and single braid .Can you pls post these too .
have you ever tried doing pony tail with butterflies or hair clips .It is really convenient compared to fabric elastics especially for people like me having so long hair ..For me it is difficult to take out twice my hair from the elastic , better to put butterfly around .Try it if you havent
Ashwin
Absolutely superb, particularly in the first and the (*callously forgets number*) drowning pics (lol). To be honest, your hair does look a bit frizzy in a few of the pics as you go down to the ends, but it's nothing to really fret about. On a whole, your hair looks simply stunning.
Keep up the great work, keep down the anti-haircut resolutions to 3 seconds (or aim for 2!), and best of luck with your wedding.
Peace
Thanks :).
I doubled-up as a "hair model" for my fiancee about three years ago, for her to practice a treatment perm on my hair. The lower part of my hair was originally in curls, and the wearing out of the curls resulted in the somewhat frizzy look.
Virgin (chemically-untreated) hair's still the best.
Yep, I'll work towards the 2-, 1-, 0.5-, 0.1- then 0.0-second records eventually :).
Your hair looks absolutely amazing. I Wish I had hair like yours.
Hey Jin, you have fantastic hair. Most women don't even have hair that nice. I see you trim it along your waistline. Awhile back, I had thoughts of trimming mine along my waistline, but that would require trimming off 18 inches of hair. Have you thought about going even longer? Yours would likely reach knee length if you just let it grow untrimmed. Again, your hair is fantastic.
Absalom
I have no specific hair goals, just thought of keep growing it. Of course, pressures come from all sides, from other people's comments, family members' criticism, weather (external), and from the hassle of washing it, air drying it and taking good care of it (internal) etc etc...
My hair was slightly "botched" by my fiancee 1.5 years ago, with her trying out a "rounded-V" profile, which turned out to be looking more like a "d**k-head" (LOL). I requested her to do a blunt cut for me, it's the favourite cut of mine, as it shows the length and volume of my hair.
Yes, I'll grow my hair to the floor if I can!
As my hair got longer, the time for it to air-dry became proportionately longer. I realized recently that there's a patch at the back of my head that stubbornly remains wet even 4 hours after washing and drying. If I were to tie it up, that part will become patchy and matty.
Hence, I decided to let my hair down today. I washed my hair in the morning, and left it open till about 4.30pm. I wanted to leave it untied the whole day, but decided against it as I thought it'll be too hot and be in the way during my dinner.
When I was waiting for the bus, I combed and tied my hair. During that time, two women who were also waiting at the bus stop stared at me. One of them suddenly blurted some (initially incomprehensible) noises. I then figured out she was calling out "Gigolo" at me. I turned and gave her a long-hard stare, but refrained from calling names back at her in response, as I did not want to stoop as low as her. She then felt the severity of my stare and began to turn away, looking slightly jittered. I kept my stare up till she walked slightly away from me, before I turned my attention to the newspapers on my hands.
I was simply sickened by the shallowness of these people, and the immature way they behave, which reminds me of school children calling people names behind their back.
Shameful... utterly...
Hi Jin ,
Such incidents do come as your hair grows longer , but you should not become prey to such people and cut your hair .After all they loose nothing it is only you who suffer at the end by loosing your such lovely mane for which you have taken tears of care .
Even I came across such incidents but it never bogged me .To avoid such incidents since long i have been wearing my hair in bun with stick to support it and then tying a cloth around to hide it .Sometimes i wear t shirt with hood to cover my bun so people do not come to know abt my hair .
It is only during small get togethers and parties where close friends and relatives meet , I wear my hair loose , or in pony tails or single braid or a butterfly in the centre.
I really get appreciation from people close to me.They used to critisice me , but they know I am never going to cut my mane
Good you did not loose temper and kept your cool
As far as drying your hair is concerned , Edg has good way of sitting on the chair with hair behind and putting a heater on some distance away from the chair .Even I have started adopting same technique and it really works well , Thanks Edg
Ashwin
Ashwin:
Can you please send some photos with two braids. Your hair is awesome
Thanks
Yeah! Reminds me of early 60s primary school kids who used to call me "fatty fatty bom bom" to my face.
I guess some people still don't know how to leave people alone.
Also what's so "gigolo" about combing and tying your hair in public. They probbaly don't understanding the meaning of the term.
Anyway, I thought most young people these days recognised long hair on men as a valid style, even if they may not agree with or like it themselves.
Cheers
Charles
Hi Jin,
I'm worse, only drop by the board every few months.
Anyway, congratulation on your awesome hair and your wedding and I hope you and your wife will be a happily married, loving, longhaired couple who'll produce many loving, longhaired children.
I was just thinking that you'd make Singapore proud if there ever was a Mr. Longhair World competition.
Cheers
Charles
