Recently I've seen a couple of amazing extra long hair shots (Jin, Ashwin and others.) Thanks for sharing them by the way. Does anyone have any special recommendations for archieving waist- and longer hair length? I would love to hear some tips & tricks. Thanks.
As someone who has waist length hair the main thing you want to
do is avoid trims. Also be careful to avoid damage. Put it in
a pony tail if you need to.
Finally use a comb (not a hair brush) and carefully remove
knots from the bottom up.
As someone others have posted that waist length hair
has been around for a number of years, take care with it
try to avoid damaging it.
(I beleive the above is from Hair Religions site.)
Thanks. That's what I'm basically doing right now (straight hair, about shoulder-length). Is that it? I'm wondering particularly about the thickness of the hair near the tips. Did you have any problems with that? Oh, and what products do you use and how often?
Like stay away from sissors...
The best tip to grow to waist length, or any length for that matter, is to ignore ALL urges to cut your hair aside from a few, a FEW, trims.
Let it grow without any cutting whatever.
Take good care of it.
Stay away from "stylists".
To grow really long hair you need a long growing cycle. Mine is 6 or 7 years. The longest shed strand from my head that I have measured so far is 44 7/8". If you do the math: 44 7/8" / 6 inches per year you get 7.48 years. The growing cycle of head hair is usually between 2 and 7 years. There are rare lucky individuals who have growing cycles of 10 years or more. These are the people that make the record books. Good genes help your growing cycle and high testosterone will shorten it.
My hair got this long due to good genes giving me a long growing cycle. I also have low testoterone levels. 299 to 999 is the reference range for testosterone and mine is 361.
To get maximum hair length you should eat a healthy diet, get adequate sleep, avoid stress, and exercise.
The genes are out of your control.
Hormones can be adjusted, but is it worth harming your health to get maximum length on your hair?
This is probably not what you want to read here, but it is best to accept what God gave you. Some people can grow waist length hair and some cannot.

Wow. Thanks for the information. I guess time will show. :)
How do you measure your testosterone level?
It is a blood test done by your doctor.

Unlike the what most others say, I recommend trims, or "dustings" along the way. During the growing process, I got mine trimmed every 12 weeks. My stylist probably took off about 1/8 - 1/4 inch each time, but as you can see my hair still grew long. I think it is so important to keep it healthy while growing. How many females during the growing process never get a trim? Answer...VERY FEW! Women want their hair to look nice during the whole growing it ouy phase. You need to find a good and trusted stylist...don't go to a cheap place where you get a different stylist each time. At each trim, make an appointment for your next trim in 12 weeks. (BTW, it took me 3.5 years to reach my length.)
Also, place conditioner on the length of your hair prior to shampooing. Only shampoo the scalp. This will protect the length from the effects of shampoo.
Here's a picture of mine...
Nice long hair .All the best ashwin
Not really special tricks. Good genes, good diet, good general health are important.
No major cutting. OK to self trim the wispies off the bottom (typically I'll cut the end until there are at least 100 hairs present).
Avoid thermal, mechanical and chemical damage. No blowfryers, treat it gently (never OW! your hair), protect it (ponytails, braids, buns, hair coverings), no bleaching or dyeing, use the minimal necessary shampoo and conditioner.
Protect it from the sun (hair coverings, braids, buns).
messed up the URL
Cool! Thanks for the info.
Great style, How do you do that one mate?
It's a Sock Bun. What you do is take a sock you no longer want to use, cut the toe out and roll it (like you were rolling it down your leg) into a donut shape. Pull your ponytail through the hole, spread the hair over the sock (helps if you bend your head so the sock is more or less level so the hair will spread out evenly) and stretch an elastic around the sock and hair so it ends up between the sock and your head. Any hair left can be wrapped around the base or left to hang loose. Depending on your hair, it may self hold, or an elastic or scrunchy may be needed to hold it.
Different thicknesses of socks will give different size buns...in the picture I used two midweight socks. A bright colored sock will help you figure out how to spread the hair evenly, a hair colored sock will show through less on thinner or uneven hair.
Very possibly the easiest bun ever. I got it only first try, and it held with just the single outside elastic for hours.
thanks for that
