Hey everyone-
thanks for this great site!! i'm 22 years old and i've been trying to let my hair grow good and long for about 10 months now. these last few weeks i've looked down at my hands while shampoo-ing my hair and noticed considerable amounts of hair have been torn from my scalp. am i thinning??? i've read that hair is at it's weakest point when it's wet and i would imagine that as hair grows longer, it likely falls out easier (hence the handfulls of hair left in the shower by the ladies, God bless them). I'm starting to get worried b/c this sort of thing shouldn't be happening to a lad my age, should it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. Another long hair question. does sweating cause the vitamins and nutrients to flow out of the hair? i work in the florida sun 5 days a week, so i sweat alot. thank you for your wisdom.
Sincerely,
Nathan
Well, based on the fact that I sweat in the California sun, which is the exact same sun as Florida has, I would doubt very much that vitamins and nutrients can flow out of one's hair... BUT, I've never claimed to be a "sweat expert", so I can't say for sure about this!
All kidding aside, working outdoors can take its toll on hair (I do gardening and landscaping work, so I can vouch for that); but this shouldn't be the main reason for any hair loss issue, --- if is was, I'd be bald a long time ago!
If MPB, this is genetic. If your concern begins to get serious, though, best to see your local doctor. Otherwise, regular shedding of hair is perfectly normal (about 100 hairs a day, it is said).
Happy growing!
