Hair pic for your distraction.
Wow man, what did you do to that tree? ; )
Hair Religion
Looks like Trolleypup is demonstrating in the second photo how he knocked it over with his hair. Hair is powerful stuff. :-)

Beautiful report. Scenery, Trees, maps and hair. Did you cut the tree with your handsaw?
James
Yes. Normally I wouldn't touch something like that, but we needed to use the camp the next weekend, and the tree was too big a hazard.
The saw is a vintage 3.5' one-person crosscut, so the 18" x 24" strip of wood I cut was well within its range and ability. More detail in the trip report link. Interestingly, when we were there the next weekend, we spent several hours cutting a 6' chunk out of the tree (to get from one side of the camp to the other)...much harder cutting (for a variety of reasons) than the felling, but we used a 6' saw for that.
Thanks for the distraction, --- and it was a very welcomed one at that!
As always, Trolleypup, your pics a great. The Ventana Wilderness is one part of California I've always wanted to spend more time exploring. I've mostly only done some off-roading & short hikes in the Big Sur area; but even that was quite awhile ago. When I was in my 20s, I used to do more serious back-packing (went on a NOLS expediton in Wyoming, for example); but now, I'm sorry to say, I'm just not in-shape for that any more, --- all the more reason to enjoy seeing pics of somebody ELSE!
One of these days I hope to actually meet you... We live in the same city; but when I'm not working, my favorite thing to do nowadays is just to go cowboy dancing with my other rainbow cowboy buddies, --- I can't seem to get enough of that!
Anyway, my compliments on your incredible mane, --- and I hope you keep that amazing hair of yours still a-growin', no matter what!!!

Hair is definitely a much more pleasant subject.
Most of the Ventana sucks for beginners or those not in shape...all up and down and steep and rough. :(
However, Cook Spring Camp (and the Coast Ridge Trail in general from the end of the Cone Peak Road) is less challenging. 3.5 miles in, less than a 1000' of elevation gain. Of course, it is at the end of a bad dirt road (not quite 4WD or High Clearance, IF you have bad road skillz!) I've been too busy doing stuff, so I'm getting further and further behind on posting pictures and trip reports, and from the point of view of long hair, they are getting less interesting, as I am keeping my hair covered, to protect it and help it towards my goals.
At some point we'll have to arrange a local meet, although, for me, the summer is a very busy time. Although I have regular nights at Ebisu.
Thanks. It IS growing, thanks to changes I've made this year. And I certainly plan to maintain that growth. The milestones are few and far between though, once you get past classic length, sigh.
Ebisu
Bill and I are always ready for another long hair get together night of sushi and that would make a lovely ending to a hike or just a day in the park filled with great hair photo settings. I'd love to see a MLHH inagural sushi meet. As a warning to others- Trolleypup is like a drug pusher luring people in and getting them hooked on their high quality sushi. I've become such a happy addict though!
Trolleypup, you are positively evil posting the Ebisu link which lets me know they do catering too. I *really* did not need to know that just now. :-D

*bows*
Yup. Everything from to go platters to multiple chefs on a porta-bar.
And you know, anytime you want to go, just let me know, *ow ow oww twist my arm some more please!*
Poor tree. :P
Great pic of your hair, though. Putting it against the tree and saw really increases the awe factor of your length. And even amidst all the saws and dusts from said saw, it's a nice background for the photo.
Thanks for sharing this.
Roadkill on the highway of campground usability. ;p
I doubt it would have lasted another winter, better to get it on the ground in a predictable way.
Certainly, it is an interesting background.
You're welcome.
Hi Trolleypup,
this is impressive - a felled tree, and the hair is growing stronger and longer than ever! Makes me envious, lol :-) Hope you can enjoy it forever!
Hans-Uwe
P.S. If I happen to ride a Muni bus any time soon, I'll say hello, of course :-)
