Ashwin,
in a previous post, I believe in Jin's, you post pictures of yourselve with long hair, so-called knee lenght hair.
I think, it's pretty obvious, in those pictures you wear a long wig.
Please, don't bother this board with that kind of garbage.
Cheers
maybe he's envious?
Out of curiosity what makes you so sure?
Since I like the game of "real or not?" here is what I observe in the pictures. To me it could really go either way.
The first thing I notice about Ashwin's hair is that it is longer on the left side when seen from the back. That can happen naturally as some members here report uneven growth or be the result of a wig being slightly sideways as the far part indicates. His ends seem to thin dramatically which looks more like the stretched sections of a combed out wig than natural growth from what looks like a once blunt line. This certainly is not hair that has grown uncut for a long time since the fastest crown hairs have not had time to create the V shape of untrimmed growth.
I also don't see a gradual narrowing from shed hairs over time in the length shots but again some people have an extraordinary retention rate and can be full throughout most of the length. Ashwin may just be nowhere near his terminal length, Lady Grace is one of those people and her grown hair seen in photos elsewhere looks almost as thick at floor length as her nape. Full hair would also account for the super thickness of his braid, I have seen in person a woman with a braid as thick as my fist so huge hair like that can be real though at the same time synthetic wig hair is pretty thick stuff too so that can also be the reason for the braid's thickness on Ashwin.
Since we don't have a good look up close so we don't know what the hairline looks like but even in the view we get I am surprised we don't see his part. I would expect to see some lightness where his scalp is showing through though at the same time hair can be swept back and leave no part so again it could go either way. The visible wispyness of broken hairs at the top of his head ring true for grown hair yet wigs snap hairs too. I also see a familiar grown long hair trait of shorter hairs from the sides reaching only his upper arms since that is the way hair grows with not everything will have the same maximum length.
Finally, these are all indoor pictures taken in the intimacy of the home which can weigh in on the wig side. Synthetic hair does not have the same color variety and sheen in sunlight but grown hair glories in outdoor photography and can be at its best outside. With the indoor photos I get the sense we are seeing more private hair play. At the same time men do experiment with styles at home that they wouldn't wear outside yet I don't think someone would be as eager to share those pictures online if they are home only styles.
It is a mixed bag all around but fun to speculate on. As with any other person you can never rule things out just because it is not likely or what you suppose an 'average' person would do.
To me it doesn't matter if Ashwin's hair is a wig or not, he's wearing long hair no matter how he came by it. If the moderators feel it is fantasy being passed off they will deal with it themselves. Should it turn out to be a wig I'd say someone who obviously enjoys long hair that much to take the time to wear, detangle, style and photograph it is just as good a fit for this site as anybody else.
Since the care is different for wigs, extensions, and growing hair I am surprised we don't see more care questions for the different ways to have long hair. I don't see one way as being more legitimate long hair than any other. Each kind of long hair will have different bonuses and drawbacks. I have seen before on other hair boards a disapproval of other ways to have long hair and it seems to often be the people relatively early in growing compared to their desired length. A quick method extensions or a wig can be seem like cheating to another person. One thing to keep in mind is that a bought method won't give the same results as grown hair so they really aren't getting a shortcut.
The only one I think is reflected poorly is Patrick who already posted a response in the original thread. He could have pointed his continued concern out to a moderator instead of beginning a new thread several days later just to yell fraud. As a visitor to the site, that is more disruptive and suspicious than an ambiguous possibility of a wig in photos. In my experience impostors show up eventually on their own due anyway due to their misconceptions about what grown long hair is really like.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth,
most of what you write is absolutely true. I agree 100%, well at least 95%. And, you write extremely well. Ever considered writing for a living?
But... I don't like people pretending. If he wants to show us his pictures of his beautiful long wig, ok by me. But tell it. Even give information where he got it. But dear Ashwin tells a story that he made up. I hate liars. And that look on his face in those pictures: "look at my long hair, how long it has grown in 10 years, Jin you have beautiful hair, but mine is just a little better and longer" Total crap. I have a real problem with that.
And indeed, i have posted this a few days ago in a previous thread, but I felt it was a lost post, that's why, in this case, I opened a new thread to yell fraud, because this is a sincere community, with honest people, where I feel pretenders, aren't needed. If he comes out and tell us the truth, fine, than he regaines my respect. Otherwise, he can**** ***. So please Ahwin, respond, tell us the truth, or prove that I am wrong.
Cheers
PS, English is not my first language so sorry for my mistakes in spelling or wordchoice. I can't completely express the way I truely feel about this guy (for the moment, I still want to give him a chance).
Before I even start my reply I see by the subject line that I mangled your name yesterday and apologize for that, Patrick. It was certainly not intentional. Thank you for the compliments, if I wrote for a living I'd have to learn to do it right and that would take all the fun out of it. I'm impressed with your writing in return. Your English reads like that of a native speaker.
Now, on to our Ashwin mystery. We don't know he is a fraud, it is a guess on your part. Now, you are either hounding a long haired man who probably already gets enough grief in his life or trampling the dream of someone who wants long hair so much he presents photos here as grown hair to construct his fantasy. Either case doesn't seem to benefit from calling him out. If it is fiction that is an abuse of our trust but I don't feel harmed by it. If he needs long hair that much let him have it.
For me the bottom line is that Ashwin does not owe us anything. I know if someone doubts my hair I am fine with that and I often think it is funny so he actually might just be giggling right now. I've seen 'prove it' calls before and they strike me more as a call for more photos rather than actual doubt. Besides, better photos wouldn't solve anything, it could just mean he has a quality wig that stands up to close inspection or manipulated the digital images...or simply has long hair he took 10 years to grow.
Here is a perspective that might help about getting over your feeling of being lied to. My fiancé used to have hair to his waist in college which he cut to seek employment. Six months later he realized how important having long hair was to his self-image. He did not begin to grow it out again until about 40. By then he was balding and reluctant to look like he was trying to hang on to his youth. Bill decided to let people think what they like and has grown as much as he can, and I admire him so much for that.
Once he said to me "I felt like I was lying to people when I had short hair for so long, that is not who I am." In his mind he'd have tangle free hair to his feet or beyond and still hopes that would be available to him through some kind of medicinal breakthrough in his lifetime. I would trade hair with him in a heartbeat because I know that would mean so much to Bill! I'd proudly be at his side if he wanted to wear a long wig everywhere he went but for now his meager ponytail is enough to be true to himself and the world.
Grown or a wig, I believe we are seeing the truth from Ashwin in a similar way. He is longhaired.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth was so eloquent in every way; I can only say that I agree with her wholeheartedly. I really don't think that any of us were harmed, if Ashwin's hair is really a wig. I'd much rather have a longhair wannabe on the board than some basher who comes here and cruelly takes us all down.
That's not to say that you're wrong about Ashwin's hair or that your viewpoint isn't valid -- certainly it's not right for someone to lie and expect others to believe it (assuming that that's what happened). But I doubt very much that anyone is going to be hurt in this case.
And Elizabeth is also right about another thing: your English reads like a native speaker's!
peace,
dino
Dino and Elizabeth,
I agree with you guys 100%. You write and express 100% what I wanted to say but perhaps I wrote down my feelings a little to harsh. Once again, it's difficult for me to write exactly what I want to say because english isn't my first language (Thanks E for the compliment). In fact, it's my third.
I just don't like liars, and I agree that no one is hurt by Ashwin posting his pictures. If I look back at them, they are even hilarious. I just believe he's envious and pitty him for that. Also it's a shame he uses Jin's post, which has lots of wonderful pictures, to "show off" his lie.
Respect, peace and cheers,
P.
a jamaican lady i work with has hair longer than ashwins. she usually wears it braided up, but when she lets it down it's easily as thick as the photo's ashwin posted. ashwins hair looks realistic enough to me.
