does anyone else find it hard to post here? I'd like to post more often but i'm just not used to talking about my hair that much. I gotta give it a shot sometime
I assume you mean it is NOT an issue of physical or technical difficulty to post here; but instead, an emotional/psychological one?
Well, most of us would indeed yawn a lot if all we ever did was discuss shampoo (lol!)!! (Although, sometimes that actually *is* a topic we like to ask each other about...) You can get an idea of the huge range of topics we end up posting about, if you simply scroll down & read to the bottom of the page. Some of these are considered "off-topic"; while others are most definitely ON-topic, --- and then we have a few "grey area" topics that you can decide for yourself (lol)... And while you're at it, check out the Links page for even more amazing reading!
We also have a lot of silent "lurkers" (most of whom are not so scarey as it sounds, --- especially considering we do our damndest to keep the truly spooky ones out!!)... You are welcome to lurk, if you just don't know what to say yet; but, even better, we hope you'll soon join in and, as you say, "give it a shot sometime"!
Oh! And, BTW, that's a great-looking head of hair ya got there, judging from your avatar pic!!
Take care.

I find it hard to post, but it's mostly because of personality. I'm very quiet. It usually takes me a while to finally warm up to things. I've replied to some messages before though but I don't have much to talk about my hair, it's in the awkward stage but all my questions were answered in previous posts. Maybe when it gets longer I'll have something to post about.

Since it's a board that tries to keep to a particular range of topics it may be that you find there isn't always something that you need to post. That's fine, don't think you have to post to use this board as an information source and don't feel you have to talk about yourself if you aren't comfortable with that.
Sometimes it just takes awhile to get used to a board before you find a way to participate. I've been that way on other boards and on this one myself and other regulars don't always post that often, sometimes it's because of time constraints or that the topics are redundent and even that topics being posted aren't at all interesting.
But a board by nature is a dynamic place and is able to change at the drop of a hat so I'm sure it's a matter of time until you find a thread that has some interest or relevance to you and prompts you to respond.
well i'm certain that I will do my best to be more active in the boards. thanks for your help guys
I also find it hard to post in the sense of starting a new topic thread. I have probably started a thread only 4 or 5 times and have only done a few sets of progress pics since I have been here (just did one few days ago). I don't have anything much to talk about hair wise. I post a few pics, they speak for themselves. How much can you say about hair after all :) Ok maybe thats just me not being the most diehard hair fanatic out there.
Most of the posts I do are not new topics but encouraging and responding to people's progress pics. Thats probably the best thing about this board, its great to give and get feedback on hair issues but mostly its just really nice to have someone say "Looks great". Occasionally we get music and concert reviews, you can post on those. I love off topic posts and wish we had more of them :)
I have to say as well Chris, that I find it great to know people are just hanging around and are out there and are ok. Whether you have much to say in your view is irrelevant to me, I feel like I'm in a room full of buddies.
This is why 80's Metal lack of posting was brought up, its because we acually care about each other.
;0)
I completely agree too. I haven't been on this board more than a few months, but I feel like I've known some of these guys for a long time. I really enjoy the camaraderie, support and kindness. It's almost paradoxical: we live in a world where it seems our face-to-face contacts (i.e., friends) are diminishing and we increasingly isolate ourselves and treat others with suspicion; whereas this "virtual" community seems so comforting. I love our incredible diversity, both personal and geographic... it's almost too bad that we're so spread out, all over the world, as it makes getting together for a big party or barbecue pretty much impossible.
Wouldn't that be a kick if we were all able to plan a big longhair convention in some world city, say, Lisbon?? :-) and have the opportunity to meet each other in cafés, museums and restaurants, while enjoying a fun and fulfilling vacation? A pipe dream, I fear.
Anyway... my mind's working overtime. This is what happens when you just start typing whatever comes to mind. :-)

I think it would be cool to meet people from the board, and well we are so spread out. I guess you just have to pick and choose where you might want to go and meet some people. Like I would love to visit California since there are so many people from the board there. Dino, I have gotten to know your friend RickG form chatting and thought some time that it would be fun to visit out that way, and now you are near there too so someday it maybe we can all meet.
Hey you guys are very cool and I don't know if either of you use chat much or if you want to email me but I always love to talk! Can't have too many cool friends, anybody wants to can email me from Bill's cool mail utility in the user's directory, you just click on the user's name and you get an email form, mine is

I enjoy the friends I have made here more than the longhair I have grown in fact :)
I also don't post much. Sometimes I would reply to a post but only if i find it interesting. I also post progress pictures every 2 months or so. I read all posts when I visit the board every 2- 3 days. I am also quiet person and find it hard to start a topic.
I also don't post much but that it's because I'm new and my hair is so short yet and I cannot answer most threads which are about long hair advice or random questions... I haven't even yet posted any progress.
But we all have to start somewhere, and the journey is a huge part.
I have short hair and am growing out veeeerrrrryyyy ssssllloooooowwwwlllyyy, but have always been welcomed here wholeheartedly.
You are Both Welcome here yep everyone starts by the Awkward stage !!!!
The way I figure it, anybody who comes here and enjoys our company must have impeccable taste :) Long hair is certainly not important to posting. People often post about their friends and family's reaction to the fact that they are growing out. Sometimes the stories can be quite amusing. I don't think that this is a hair maintenance only site. If it were I wouldn't have much to say :) Write about whatever hair growing means to you or inspirations or anything.
Hey Dave it only seems very veeeerrryyy ssslloooowww, well ok maybe it is but at least we keep you company on the trip lol
As Hair Religion says this is a very vibrant and lively board and messages soon drop off the bottom of the page, and whatever your reservations on posting, people here will only remember you as a friendly participant, not on specific content.
Just remember its chip paper tomorrow.
(This is an english expression, back in the day before helath & safety, chips (fries) were wrapped in newspaper, and whatever was written about in the press - no matter how scandalous, the next day it would be relagated to wrapping greasy chips and discarded.)
Very interesting! Thanks for teaching us (non-Britons) something new, nuttidave.
I like that espression dave, good philosophy too, don't worry much over the opinion of the day :)
So True Dave
