Someone below asked to see ways to wear their hair, other than in a ponytail, that would also be "masculine"...
Well, I've never claimed to be any kind of super-butch example of studly masculinity; but I do ATTEMPT to "fit in" with society's expectations by not swishing my hips to the point of knocking over the furniture in antique stores, at least. So, believe it or not, I've gotten very attached to buns, --- of the hair kind, that is... I think they're GREAT!! Very quick & easy to do, and very practical in many work situations (I do a combination of gardening/landscaping, cooking, and also occasionally teaching partner dance classes). Although as Trolleypup once described it as sometimes looking like a "flattened cowpie", most of the time I've at least been able to start the day off with it looking usually a *little* better than that (thank God!)!!
Here's some pics from two separate times, --- one from about 6 months ago; the other from almost 2 years ago. This pic I'm starting with is from this past January... Enjoy!

OK, here's my bun on the left side (when I'm feeling like the Democrat that I usually am)...
And here's the side of my buns that I usually only show my mother, since for some unknown reason she still insists on voting Republican...
And if that isn't enough... Can you imagine the horror of having to deal with 3 of me???
My apologies to anyone who got offended seeing my buns... well, it's not really a sincere apology, --- so let's just say, "My CONDOLENCES to anyone who got offended seeing my buns!"
- Ken
Hahaha I love your sense of humour !!!!
Pretty twisted, I know... My apologies should be directed towards the VERY "strait & narrow"!!
hey Ken nice buns!
and the rest of you ain't bad eather!
Just an observation . . . . . . . .
Your label of left side seems to be a picture of the right side of your head and hair
Your label of right side seems to be a picture of the left side of your head and hair
So either you have it backwards, or the pictures are taken in a mirror, so they are completely reversed.
But then you explain everything: "when I'm feeling like the Democrat that I usually am)... "
LOL, sorry Ken, you painted too big a target for me to pass up!
Guess there's no need to explain which way my camera points.
Thanks for sharing.

Ken...I love your buns...both left and right! I have tried to "tie a bun" but it has never looked very good. Howzabout some directions? Also wondered when you are going to update your website...I would guess your hair is longer than waist length by now. Signed, Oneofyourbiggestfans.
First, the directions for great Betty Crocker buns, --- I sold the recipe to her a long time ago, which she very rudely re-named in her cookbook; but I still call them "cowboy buns"...
KEN'S COWBOY BUNS!
Ingredients:
1) Hair (long)
2) one good & sturdy hair-tie
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. This has nothing to do with hairy buns; but Betty Crocker always starts off this way, so I guess I should...
Brush or comb hair until smooth (but do NOT put in a blender!!)...
Twist your hair around and around and around and around. If you are dizzy, you misunderstood me: I said, "Twist your HAIR..." (*NOT* yourSELF)!
Once it looks more or less like a tornado about to strike land, start wrapping it around and around and around and around...
If you did this in front of your head, it will be best for you not to go out in public. If you did this at the back of your head (about the height that most of us would wear a ponytail), then Betty crocker might even invite you over for dinner!
Now for the icing on the cake: put a hair-tie around the whole "cowpie", --- in whatever way you can figure it out to hold it all together in-place!
Here's a close-up pic of the end result...
Go to the directory of users and look up Gollan.Click on his pic.His web site has some really good information including illistrated instructions on how to tie a bun.I wear a bun quite often in this Texas heat when working outdoors.

i love it!! that would definately be useful for physical activity where your tail can still get cuaght....i have horific thoughts of burning mu hair on a stove till i rmeember bums lol.
oh btw i know you always say your just going gray..but i love the blond colour of your hair.
Thanks, Muffinman! Yes, it is indeed very practical, and "almost" feels as if it's short, --- but the fun part is that at the end of the day, your hair gets to tumble down... long & free!
- Ken
I tried to follow your instructions to give myself some hairy buns too, but I guess my hair's not quite hairy enough yet. {sigh}
Trust me, it will get there, --- and SOON!
I've often thought that if i were to ever cut my hair to a shorter length, that the length you currently have is probably what I most get nostalgic to return to, --- I really enjoyed half-tails at that length, for example (it's harder to do half-tails when longer, I find it now more difficult, at least)...
Every hair length has its advantages / disadvantages... so, enjoy the journey!!!

I just returned from a month in Italy, trekking up and down mountains and in and out of archeological sites. Hot. Sweaty. Dirty. Not to mention crowded city trains and buses.
I wore my hair in a bun many of those days. As I was staying in places that did not have AC, very often after showering, I'd put my hair in a bun which kept it wet longer (and thus, cooler). Going out with my hair in a bun kept it up off my neck and back, kept it protected from other things that might harm it. It's a really good way to keep your hair in a variety of situations.
Robert
Sounds like it was a fantastic time in Italy this summer, Robert (in spite of the hot, sticky weather)! And I couldn't agree with you more about putting hair in a bun being a really good way to keep it in a variety of situations. I'm seeing more & more longhaired guys nowadays do this, --- and to me, there's nothing "feminine"-looking about it whatsoever... I've seen PLENTY of long-haired guys holding hands with their wife/girlfriend who do this in the SF Bay Area (more often than the few gay longhairs that exist here). And regardless of sexual orientation, it usually surprises me how masculine it actually looks on 99% of the males I see with it (as well as it's just plain hands-down practical)!!!
Take care, Robert, --- and have a great rest of your summer!

Why do you have to have hair like that??... Looks simply stunning Ken, and the buns are also a great style for you, I hope I can do them myself in the future =)
Thanks so much, Joao David (I have a ~ on my keyboard; but I have no clue of how to place it above your first name!)!!
Well, no reason for *you* to be jealous, Joao, --- you have one of the thickest, most luxurious heads of hair on this board!!!
I guarantee that you'll eventually have no problem doing the bun thing, --- it helps to have the hair just a little longer, though. You could probably at least try it now, I bet. I realize my bun instructions are sort-of silly; but if you follow the essence of what I'm saying, chances are that soon, if not now, you'll be able to have your first bun!!
Take care, --- and have fun growing!

Lol Im Speechless Words avade me !!! Looks Fun though Ken
That looks absolutely fantastic!
