In a few boards I read about using lemon juice for lightning up the hair color. Does this really work? My hair is a dark blonde and I'd like to have it a brighter blonde. For how long do I have to use the lemon juice to get a change? Could these kind of hair treatment damage my hair?
Thanks for your suggestions.
Hey guy!
Every summer, I use lemon juice to lighten mine. I always use it full strength from a bottle (as opposed to straight from a lemon) after showering and towel drying. Then I go out for several hours, and I get really nice natural looking highlights.
When I get home, I shower, not shampooing but just rinsing with water, and then do a deep conditioning. Sometimes I go get a professional conditioning treatment at a salon to take care of any drying out.
I've never had really bad dryness occur. Although a cosmetologist once told me that I have to be careful because the hair towards the ends could become easily damaged. It's never happened, and I think it's because my hair's damp when I apply the juice, so it doesn't go on full strength.
Oh, and after I put the juice on, I NEVER blow dry - let it dry naturally.
Good luck!
