Hi there, I know some people here think seasonal shedding is a myth. Well it isn't. I have been weighing how much hair I shed, and have discovered I shed twice as much in summer and early fall as during the rest of the year. I have nearly a year of records to prove it.
Does anyone else here seem to shed more at certain times of the year?

I havent noticed that, but my hair is only 3 -4 inches long at the moment. It makes sense though. Animals have more fur in the winter than the summer. So i guess it would be the same with us.
I haven't noticed a difference to this point. Pretty consistant so far. I am tracking growth via bi-monthly measurement; I may start doing the same for shedding.
Ever notice how an abnormally larger number of people from our generation have old Ohaus balances (I have an old triple-beam)? A sign and reminder of the times :o)

ABSOLUTELY, I have 2 of them, but they have never been used for sinister purposes.

It is Summer for me and always has been that way. Starts around mid-July and ends just about before Oct.
Hi Justin, your shedding cycle is exactly the same as mine.

Hey Absalom
Then there HAS to be something to it. I would almost wager a bet that we are the same as animals which go through cycles of shedding. It is probably suppose to be that way and is perfectly normal.
Justin~
Hi Justin, it seems so. Most of the other posts on this topic agree with this finding, so far.

It's normal for other mammals. I don't see why it would be any different for us.
Glad you settled the issue, but a bit concerned that you may have too much free time... :)
The scientific method triumphs again! I love it! Good job, Absalom!
I think you may have too much time on your hands!
Good stuff, I was wondering if the amount I lose was normal, and it's pretty much the same as yours. But I had a bad habit of brushing too hard so I lost a fair number of hairs before like that, too. It's hard to really estimate it, for example, you may brush harder/more in the summer due to sweating or heat and such.
Hey AzureNight, always treat your hair gently to minimize loss. For my hair, which is well over 3 feet long, a brush is too harsh. I use a pick. It has long widely spaced teeth and is much gentler on my hair than a brush.

i have noticed a difference during seasons to. during the winter i would never notice any shedding. my brush rarely got full of hair. during the summer though my brush gets full every other week.
Hey Zack, it is the same here for me. Maybe it is the same for nearly everyone.

Well, I hope it is seasonal, since I have been sheding a lot in this Summer... Well, I think that if hair grows faster in the Summer, than it will shed more in the Summer... could that be??
Oh well =)
