Hi,
on this pic you can see me to the left and as you can see, I got split. My mum wanted me to cut the spits, but I don't want to... do you think Im able to stop my hair from spitting too much when I take better care of them (better shampoo...)?
I'm gonna cut them to the same length at the end of the year, so...
i sure hope you dont have split ends...cuas that would mean id have them...i dont know how its possible
Hey Muffin Guy,
Don't assume you'll have split ends just because someone else with approximately the same length of hair has 'em. I was over at Bill Choisser's house one day last winter, when Absalom of famed near-knee length hair showed up. As would be no surprise to guess that 3 longhairs together would of course start chatting about hair stuff, we ended up asking each other about split ends. Bill and Scott (AKA "Absalom") both had very, very few (and very minor splits, at that); whereas I regularly have to deal with them.
I currently use the "search & destroy method", as described in HairReligion's site. It's been well over 2 years since I've had a professional trim; but I normally used to go in at least once a year to get a full inch taken off. The longer your hair gets, the easier it is to maintain yourself, in my opinion. But, if your not there yet, then by all means seek out a really reputable hair stylist, --- especially if you can find one with a long hair "following" (usually, that means predominantly women). They will charge more $$$ than your "average" stylist; but they are indeed WORTH IT!!!!
Also, as a preventative measure, I have found that liberal amounts of conditioner after shampoing, plus massaging in a little beneficial oil into the ends (Kukui nut, Jojoba, or Almond oils are the best that I'm aware of) can really make a difference!

thank ken!
altho his hairs a bit longer...but his hair looks a lot like mine and since my hairs in rather erratic waves i dont really know what a split looks like. Ive gone for a trim a few months ago and have decided not to get any for a long time as i cant do any more really to prevent splits if im somehow getting them.
i shall just have to pesevere and see what happens..i suspect as you said my hair will be easier to manage when its all cleared the head(the ends that is)
Hi Dusk,
First, let me say, I think you look absolutely great with long hair. As far as the split ends go, I don't see them even though it is a pretty good picture. IF you have them, you can try applying some "Anti-Frizz gel" or "Split Ends repair fluid" (a clear oily fluid consisting of dimethicone, cyclomethicone, and not much else, there are several brand names). I have found that this stuff protects split hair ends from getting worse.
Plus, I'd try to avoid daily washes, and only use shampoo once a week at the most - use conditioner instead, and just don't mention this to your mother if she's not understanding.
The essence? Chances are that you do not need a trim - I'd avoid it at that age if it can be helped at all.
Happy growth!

Hi Dusk,
I meant to say, "avoid trims at that stage", not "age", the "st" was swallowed by the system (or, I forgot to type them ;-)
Happy growth!

Your hair seems to be the same type as mine. My hair has always looked like that, even now. I can't see any split's, just a bit messy and i've found no real way to fix that but more length.
