So, it's been about 19 months now, and I'm getting some really craptacular tangles in the bottom two inches or so of my hair, especially when I take it out of being in a ponytail all day. Is this just because my hair is longer now? Is it because it's curling up at the ends (but not the rest of the hair)? Could it be split ends?
It's really frustrating the hell out of me. Any information that will keep me from cutting it is appreciated.

"Craptacular", --- now that's a really fun word I never would have thought of!
Hey Chris, I thought you had decided to go to dreads, --- or am I mixing you up with some other guy who looks just like you, also named Chris?
In any case, in answer to your questions... "Yes", "yes', and "yes". Or, at least i THINK so, --- one can never be 100% sure on the internet!
One of the reasons I wear my hair so often in a bun or braid these days is so I don't have to spend so much time de-tangling at the end of the day.
Regardless, I hope you don't cut your hair short, as you have a GREAT-looking mane there!!
Take care.

Yes, that was me with the dreads. And for three days they were awesome, then they just started coming apart and looking all messy and it wasn't working (except down in the lower two inches) so I took them back out. :)
What I've noticed is that it's usually what I call the "lower 40" - it's that part of the hair that hangs down over the collar. Everything north of there seems to brush out fine. :/
